Dungeons & Dragons is adopting the Universes Beyond label from Magic: The Gathering and creating crossovers, with the first being D&D: World of Warcraft, a sourcebook that connects Azeroth to the multiverse, giving players iconic new species and subclasses to use.

While Dungeons & Dragons was the first big RPG success story, plenty of media franchises have created their own tabletop games over the years, such as The Lord of the Rings, Final Fantasy 14, and Warhammer. As such, there haven't been that many Dungeons & Dragons crossovers over the years, despite the potential sales of such books. Players don't seem to mind, as they love to home-brew their own content based on big properties, adapting entire fictional universes to the world of dice and points.

D&D: World of Warcraft Launches November 2026

Dungeons & Dragons is entering a new era in 2026, as Wizards of the Coast announced D&D: World of Warcraft at Gen Con 2026. D&D: World of Warcraft launches November 17, 2026, and will feature a ton of lore and rules that will make the denizens of Azeroth playable using the current Dungeons & Dragons 5e rules.

D&D: World of Warcraft adapts large parts of the MMO to the tabletop RPG, with characters like Arthas the Lich King and Jaina Proudmoore given stats. The book also features 26 magic items (including Artifacts), 7 dungeons, 30 World of Warcraft bosses, over 60 spells, over fifty monster stat blocks, and 23 factions for players to join.

World of Warcraft Subclasses & Species Are Coming to Dungeons & Dragons

In terms of player-facing content, there are 11 new species in D&D: World of Warcraft, including Man'ari eredar, Broken draenei, Dracthyr, Pandaren, Troll, Haranir, and Orcs. Elves are also present and have five lineages that represent the main elven species seen in World of Warcraft. D&D: World of Warcraft also features 6 new subclasses and 3 updates to existing ones, including the Death Knight, Demon Hunter, and Shadow Priest.

With all the material in D&D: World of Warcraft, fans of the MMO should have no problem transforming their characters into tabletop heroes, so they can go on brand-new adventures in Azeroth, or even take them to other parts of the multiverse, letting their Leeroy Jenkins run wild in the Forgotten Realms.

Wizards of the Coast mentioned that D&D: World of Warcraft is part of a new initiative, as Dungeons & Dragons is using the same Universes Beyond label for its crossovers that Magic: The Gathering does. Based on recent crossovers in the card game, maybe Dungeons & Dragons books for Final Fantasy, The Lord of the Rings, or even Star Trek are on the way. The multiverse is the limit, and fans can't wait to see what worlds will be adapted to the tabletop RPG in the future.
