The official solicit synopsis for Dungeons & Dragons #1 from Dark Horse Comics reads, "A draconic apocalypse approaches the Forgotten Realms, and it has one name on its lips: MORDENKAINEN. Now, stripped of his magic but never out of the fight, the most powerful wizard in all reality will need the help of Faerûn’s most legendary heroes to restore the balance."

The upcoming Dungeons & Dragons series is just one of several that Dark Horse Comics will have released this year by the time it arrives, although it may very well be the most hotly-anticipated of them all. Back in July, the fan-favorite indie publisher released Dungeons & Dragons: Total Party Killers by writer Christopher Hastings and artist Denis Medri, which features a party of literal monsters working to escape a dungeon under siege by numerous would-be adventurers.

On August 19, readers will be able to pick up the first issue in Dark Horse Comics' next horror-fueled take on the beloved RPG in the form of Dungeons & Dragons: Ravenloft. Written by Amy Chu with art by Ariel Kristantina and Arif Prianto, Dungeons & Dragons: Ravenloft will find the eponymous realm quite literally falling apart at the seams, leaving monster hunter Ez D'Avenir to investigate and, hopefully, save all of Ravenloft from certain doom.

Fans looking for somewhat lighter fare can turn towards Dungeons & Dragons: The Fallbacks by writer Greg Pak and artists Wilton Santos, Edvan Alves, and Raúl Angulo, which follows the band of somewhat hapless adventurers originally introduced in Jaleigh Johnson's 2024 novel, Dungeons & Dragons: The Fallbacks: Bound for Ruin. In their latest adventure, the eponymous Fallbacks find themselves once again staring down a threat they are likely no match for, yet which they are sure to persevere in the face of anyway.

Dungeons & Dragons #1 from Dark Horse Comics goes on sale on Nov. 4.
