The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles will celebrate Korean picture books with two free programs on Aug. 22-23 featuring award-winning author Zo-O.

Presented with support from the Publication Industry Promotion Agency of Korea, the programs will be held at the Pio Pico-Koreatown Branch Library on Aug. 22 and West Hollywood Park on Aug. 23.

Zo-O is the author of “A Dot, a Line, a Bird,” which received the Grand Prize in the fiction category at the 2025 Korea Picture Book Awards. During the programs, she will discuss the inspiration and creative process behind her work and meet with children and families.

“A Dot, a Line, a Bird” tells the story of birds colliding with glass windows in an urban environment. Inspired by the use of dots and lines on windows to prevent bird collisions, the book explores how individual actions and collective efforts can help humans and wildlife coexist in cities.

Zo-O made her picture book debut with “Corner” in 2020. The book was selected as a 2024 United States Board on Books for Young People Outstanding International Book and was named one of Kirkus Reviews’ Best Picture Books of 2023.

On Aug. 22, Zo-O will give an author talk at the Pio Pico-Koreatown Branch Library, followed by a conversation with the audience.

On Aug. 23, the Korean Cultural Center will participate in the Los Angeles Kids Book Festival at West Hollywood Park. The event will include an exhibition of award-winning Korean picture books, Zo-O’s author talk and giveaways. A selection of Korean picture books will also be available for purchase.

The programs are part of the Korean Cultural Center’s ongoing efforts to introduce Korean literature and illustration to audiences in Los Angeles. Additional literary events are planned for September and October.
