Things to this weekend: ‘Pageant of the Masters' holds still in Laguna Beach

Дата публикации: 09-07-2026 12:03:49

Pageant of the Masters: Nearly a century along, this stand-very-very-still stage spectacular still possesses panache and a surplus of forward momentum. Happening nightly for two months, the Laguna Beach “tableaux vivant” tradition finds performers staying statue-like inside cleverly rendered oversized artworks. “The Greatest of All Time” is the bigger-than-big 2026 theme, and the schedule is big, too: The pageant begins July 9 and concludes Sept. 4.
FIFA World Cup Fan Zones: Riveting matches are on the horizon as eight teams square off in the World Cup quarterfinals. A free festival celebrating the games, the fandoms, and the excitement are headed to Whittier Narrows from July 9-11 while a ticketed happening is popping up in Venice Beach on July 10 and 11. Tunes, activities, food for sale, and fundom for the fandoms await.
Central Library 100th Birthday Party: Milestones feel more major when the star of the moment has given back, countless times, to the community in so many incredible, life-bettering ways. The DTLA landmark is celebrating its centennial July 11, and everyone is invited to the pay-nothing bash, which will feature puppets, live music, a time capsule display, craft activities, and all of the love that we can lavish upon the pyramid-rocking celebrity.
Corpse Flowers to (possibly) bloom: If you’re seeking gardening inspiration, The Huntington may have it for you. Two fast-growing Corpse Flowers are creating a splash at the stunning San Marino spot, and with excellent reason: These are rare specimens and beholding one is a bucket-list-y treat. Though your nose may think otherwise, for these blooms can really stink it up. They’re not open yet (as of July 9) but may flower in the coming days; check The Huntington’s socials for more.
Jackie and Shadow Fan Party: Spread your wings and flap, flap, flap in the direction of Big Bear, where bald eagle enthusiasts will gather to hobnob, discuss the area’s beloved birds, and get to know all of the nature-centric offerings of the region over two days. Hikes, time on the lake, talks, and a July 11 fan bash in honor of Jackie & Shadow, the icons of the mountaintop, are on the docket. Activities are free and are first-come, first-served; you’ll want to register, yep.
