Decided to replay GTA IV after a few years and I forgot just how bad the PC port actually is.
The game itself is still amazing. Liberty City is still one of my favorite maps, the physics are great, and the story is just as good as I remembered. But actually getting the game to run properly is a different story.
I'm on an RTX 5070 with an i7 and I still had to install a bunch of fixes and mods just to make it playable. Even then I was getting random stutters and other weird issues.
The thing that really annoyed me though was the saving. At one point the game just didn't save properly and I lost a decent amount of progress, so I had to replay a bunch of missions. I genuinely forgot that this game could be that frustrating on PC.
It just made me remember that Rockstar PC ports have always been a bit rough. GTA IV has to be one of the worst examples. Every time I come back to this game I end up spending more time on google than actually playing for the first hour.
Once everything is finally working, it's still an incredible game and probably my favorite GTA. I just wish replaying it didn't feel like I was troubleshooting a 17-year-old game before I could actually enjoy it.
Anyone else replayed it recently? How was it for you?
