GTA IV was my first PS3 game. Back in 2008, I was starved for content (just like I am now in 2026), and this game delivered in ways I couldn't have imagined. I estimate I beat it about 7-8 times on PS3, always just enjoying the story and never bothering with 100%.
Then I moved to PC and ran through it a couple more times.
A couple years ago, I got an Xbox Series X after my ps3 broke down. Knowing I’d have another chance to play gta iv again and gta vi coming out factored into my decision getting this consoles over the ps5. This time, I decided to go for a 100% run after already getting the Liberty City Minute achievement. I was around 88% when my Xbox broke down — heartbreaking. But honestly? That playthrough felt like my first time all over again.
Now I'm back in 2026, still playing, still loving it.
---
My final count:
Platform Playthroughs
PS3 (2008–2022) ~12
PC ~3
Xbox Series X ~2
Total ~17 confirmed
Honestly? Might be closer to 18-19 if I'm forgetting a few.
---
A few things I've noticed across versions:
· PS3 is still the most atmospheric to me — richer color grading, better cutscene quality thanks to Blu-ray, and those volumetric headlight effects that looked closer to GTA V's lighting. The trade-off? Frame drops into the low 20s during heavy action. But I didn't care — atmosphere > performance.
· Xbox Series X is smooth at 60 FPS, but the colors feel flatter and some visual effects got simplified. It's the best playable option now since Sony left PS3 in the dust, but it's a compromise.
· The PS3 version also had more songs (thanks to the complete radio soundtrack) and less compressed video files, which made a huge difference to me.
---
I know some folks here have hit 50+ runs (looking at you, mario98965),according to some searching I did
Anyone else kept a count? What's your highest? And does anyone else swear by the PS3 version despite the performance issues?
— A fan who just can't stay away from Liberty City

im left wondering if I should bother to get 100% after I lost my save file. I just started the game again. I love it. There’s a save file at 67% per cent open but I’m kind k thinking of replaying the whole thing.
