High accuracy power analyser Yokogawa

The WT1500 high-precision power analyser is the latest addition to the company’s WT series. It is also the most accurate in the portfolio with a power accuracy of +/- 0.038% (DC, 50/60Hz) and low-power-factor accuracy of +/- 0.07% of S at 50/60Hz.

The compact power analyser also has the highest rated input voltage of the WT series at 2000Vdc. In response to customer requests for a small form factor, rack mount power analyser, the WT1500 accommodates four measurement channels in a 2U, 19-inch chassis.

New features include a USB-A port for peripherals and wifi adapter support, a USB-C port to support a touchscreen and there is a dedicated current sensor input, which will be rolled out to other models in the WT series in time, confirmed Yokogawa’s power and energy measurement specialist, Michael Rietvelt.

A CAN/CAN FD output has also been included, together with a dedicated current sensor input connector and resolver inputs.

The resolver signal input support enables users to conduct motor evaluation tests without needing additional equipment, explained Rietvelt. New multi-unit synchronisation capabilities are scheduled to be released “soon” which will allow up to five units to connect, (one main and up to four sub-units) for a maximum of 20 power channels.

The power analyser is designed to supports four power measurements and four motor evaluations, including both encoder and resolver signal inputs, IEEE 1588 time synchronisation, and data output to CAN/CAN-FD buses and low-latency data transmission via UDP communication.

The high voltage input supports direct measurement up to 2000Vdc and 300kHz, suitable for PCS and ESS applications. The wide bandwidth input supports up to 1000V with a 2MHz bandwidth, sufficient to measure complex, high-frequency waveforms generated in modern xEV (renewable energy and EVs) motors. Both share a common sensor input and can be mixed in a single unit.

Four current input terminals, alongside voltage terminals, provide power for current sensors. These, in combination with a series of new current adapter accessories, enable the WT1500 to accommodate the CT Series solid-core (D-sub Terminal, 60 A to 2000 A, AC/DC), the CT1000S split-core (BNC, 1000 A, AC/DC), and AC-only current clamp probes (BNC, 50 A and 200 A class).

Typical applications are high-voltage, multi-functional measurement for semiconductor and battery applications in xEV , transportation (automotive, aerospace, railway and marine) and power conversion in PV, EV-charging, UPS, energy storage and data centre power
distribution.
