Variety Awards Circuit section is the home for all awards news and related content throughout the year, featuring the following: the official predictions for the upcoming Oscars, Emmys, Grammys and Tony Awards ceremonies, curated by Variety chief awards editor Clayton Davis. The prediction pages reflect the current standings in the race and do not reflect personal preferences for any individual contender. As other formal (and informal) polls suggest, competitions are fluid and subject to change based on buzz and events. Predictions are updated every Thursday.
Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Updated: Aug. 21, 2026): Here are the official episode submissions for this year’s nominees.
Colman Domingo, “The Four Seasons” (Netflix) | “Big Thanksgiving”
A dual nominee this year across comedy and drama, Domingo won guest actor for “Euphoria” in 2022 and has become the industry’s most reliably nominated multi-hyphenate.
Paul W. Downs, “Hacks” (HBO Max) | “QuikScribbl”
Nominated as an actor, writer and producer on a show that just broke the comedy nomination record, Downs is the most quietly essential person in this year’s field. Also, final-season goodwill is real.
Harrison Ford, “Shrinking” (Apple TV) | “And That’s Our Time”
Ford has never won a competitive Emmy, an Oscar or anything else in a career that redefined the American movie star. This is the sentimental front-runner, and everyone knows it. If the Academy wants the moment, he’s right there.
Nick Offerman, “Margo’s Got Money Troubles” (Apple TV) | “Lariat Takedown”
A guest actor winner in 2023 for “The Last of Us” and a dual nominee this year, with a second mention in limited. Offerman has quietly become one of the most decorated character actors of the decade.
Stephen Root, “Widow’s Bay” (Apple TV) | “Seasickness”
Previously nominated for “Barry,” Root submitted the final episode of eligibility for a show that landed 19 nominations. He has spent 40 years as the ringer in other people’s ensembles, and Wyck is the show’s connective tissue.
Michael Urie, “Shrinking” (Apple TV) | “D-Day”
A second-time nominee, Urie is the other half “Shrinking’s” ensemble supporting actor force, and internal competition with Harrison Ford is the least winnable fight on the ballot. However, the nomination is the accomplishment.
Tyler James Williams, “Abbott Elementary” (ABC) | “Trip”
Gregory has been the most underwritten essential character on the series for five seasons, and Williams keeps finding the joke inside the straight-man persona. Broadcast performers do not win these anymore, but rules are made to be broken.
The Emmy Awards timeline begins with nomination-round voting from June 11-22, with nominations announced on July 8. The final voting runs from Aug. 17-26, leading into the Creative Arts Awards and Governors Gala on Sept. 5–6, culminating with the Emmy Awards ceremony on Sept. 14 on NBC.
