Roche has named Dan Malarek President and Chief Executive Officer of Roche Diagnostics North America. Malarek assumed the role on August 1 after leading Foundation Medicine, Roche’s genomic testing affiliate. Based at the company’s North American headquarters in Indianapolis, he reports to Roche Diagnostics Global Chief Executive Officer Matt Sause.

Malarek succeeds Brad Moore, who retired at the end of July after nearly a decade with Roche. The company also appointed Antonio Vergara Chief Commercial Officer of Roche Diagnostics U.S., a newly created position responsible for the company’s U.S. commercial organization and business units. Vergara reports directly to Malarek and previously led Roche’s U.S. Core Lab and Near Patient Care business.

Foundation Medicine Chief Operating Officer Vera Grossmann became interim Chief Executive Officer following Malarek’s departure. The company is searching for a permanent successor.

Malarek joined Roche in 2007 and has held leadership positions across its diabetes care, molecular diagnostics, marketing, and international operations. His previous roles include general manager of Roche Diagnostics Norway and global head of marketing and customer insights for Roche Diagnostics. Sause said Malarek’s experience would support the continued growth of Roche’s North American diagnostics business.
