Legend Biotech has appointed CARVYKTI business leader Alan Bash as Interim Chief Executive Officer following the departure of Ying Huang, who stepped down as chief executive officer and resigned from the company’s board.

Huang joined Legend as chief financial officer in 2019 and became chief executive officer in September 2020. He will remain an advisor through August before moving into venture investing focused on drug development.

During Huang’s tenure, Legend moved from clinical development into commercial cell therapy through CARVYKTI, its treatment for relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma. The company develops and markets the therapy with Johnson & Johnson.

Bash joined Legend in 2024 as president of the CARVYKTI Business Unit, where he led commercialization of the company’s primary product. Legend’s board has begun a global search for a permanent chief executive.

“My immediate focus will be on ensuring continuity across the business, maintaining strong execution, and supporting our teams as we continue advancing our commercial, clinical, and operational priorities,” Bash said.

Bash assumes leadership as CARVYKTI continues to expand internationally. The therapy generated approximately $657 million in second-quarter net trade sales, up 50% from the previous year. Sales outside the U.S. increased 128%, and CARVYKTI is now available at 348 sites across 19 markets.

Legend expects to achieve company-wide profitability in 2026 and reported approximately $965 million in cash, cash equivalents, and time deposits at the end of the second quarter.
