Ray Goad

Ray Goad passed away peacefully on August 13, 2026, at the age of 83.

Born in Bowling Green, Ky., on Sept. 11, 1942, he lived a life defined by honor, service, and devotion to his family.

A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Ray honorably served his country during tours in Cuba and Vietnam. His dedication and bravery earned him numerous medals and commendations throughout his military service.

Beyond his service to his country, Ray was known for his warm heart, sharp sense of humor, and generous spirit. He was always quick with a joke, eager to lend a hand to anyone in need, and happiest when spending time with his family or out on the water fishing. He was a devoted leader at Calhoun First Baptist Church for many years.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Patricia; his mother, Myrtle Chaney Goad; his stepmother, Dorothy Isbell Goad; and his father, James Clifton Goad, Sr.

Ray is survived by his loving children: Barbie Mullins (Danny), Jackie Murphy (Todd), Debbie Walker (Craig) and Sean Goad (Laura). He also leaves behind six beloved grandchildren: Joey Cox (Kristen), Wesley Davis (Cassie), Jack Murphy (Hannah), Cara Lawson, Tyler Lawson, and Klara McKinnon; as well as seven cherished great-grandchildren: Allie Cox, Josiah Cox, Everett Cox, Sutton Davis, Ezra Walls, Easton Walls, and Rileigh Lawson. He will also be fondly remembered by his many surviving siblings, extended family members, and friends.

The family will gather with family and friends from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 17, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Ray’s life will follow at 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home with his nephew Chris Dodson officiating.

Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors. If you would like to join us for the burial on Tuesday, we will leave from the North Chapel at 9:30 a.m. and go in a procession to the cemetery.

The arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
