Erik ten Hag has made a huge decision to name a shock player in central defence for Man United's FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City. 

The Red Devils have suffered from injuries this season with Raphael Varane, Jonny Evans, Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof all currently sidelined. 

Fans were speculating as to who would play at the back ahead of the game, and a surprise name has been listed in defence.

The likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Diogo Dalot, Scott McTominay and Casemiro were all thought to have been considered by fans on social media ahead of the match. 

Ten Hag has now opted for experience in his back line, naming a new central defensive partner for Harry Maguire. 

Casemiro has been named in the back four alongside Wan-Bissaka, Maguire and Dalot.

While the Brazilian has little experience playing in this role, he is the most defensive minded midfielder in the United squad.

This is similar to when Jurgen Klopp turned to former Liverpool star Fabinho to fill in a gap in their defence. 

Taking to social media after the line-ups were published, Man United fans reacted to the news. 

'Casemiro CB I am scared,' said one fan. 

'Dalot, Casemiro, Maguore, AWB… here we see Manchester United with their *checks notes* 127th different back four this season,' joked another. 

Another admitted that they were worried after seeing Casemiro in an even more defensive role.

'Bringing Casemiro’s brand of chaotic slide tackling into the box is going to give me a heart attack today I can already tell,' they said. 

The Red Devils know that victory will see them set up an FA Cup final against rivals Man City.
