Manchester United are set to include a 17-year-old in their squad to take on Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils have been hit by a number of defensive injuries recently, leaving Erik ten Hag to call upon a member of the Under-18 squad to join the first-team.

The crisis deepened this week with defenders Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof being ruled out for a month with calf and hamstring injuries respectively.

They were dealt a further blow when, on Thursday, both Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans were both forced off during their 4-3 defeat to Chelsea.

Furthermore, midfielder Scott McTominay has been ruled out for the clash, leaving ten Hag to look to his youth sides to make up the numbers for the match.

Full-back Harry Amass will join the Red Devils' first-team squad for the clash at Old Trafford

With all of this in mind, 17-year-old Harry Amass has earned a call-up to the first-team squad for their clash against Liverpool at Old Trafford, according to The Athletic.

The youngster has been a key feature in United's Under-18 side this campaign, having made 18 appearances in all competitions for the side.

He also recently earned a call-up to United's Under-21 side and has been regularly training with the first-team in the absence of their first-choice left-backs.

Both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have been sidelined for an extended period of time, leading to a number of players being forced to play in an unnatural position.

Should Amass make his way onto the pitch against Liverpool, he will join the likes of Omari Forson and Willy Kambwala as academy graduates who have earned a first-team debut this season.

Speaking after the injury setbacks to Lindelof and Martinez, ten Hag suggested that Premier League stars were being 'overloaded' by the footballing schedule.

‘Absolutely, anywhere the players get overloaded and can't bring the performances anymore,’ said the United boss.

Lisandro Martinez is one of the United defenders set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines

‘We are already over the point where we demand what we want from our top players.

‘You see last weekend, City were playing without (Kyle) Walker and (John) Stones. The levels were dropping without them.

'There was a different team to what we faced.’
