A burglary suspect was arrested on Aug. 16 after breaking into a home in Hancock Park and barricading himself inside for several hours.

Occupants of the home in the 200 block of North Lucerne Boulevard heard the suspect breaking in around 8 a.m. and called police before fleeing the residence. Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Wilshire Division responded and ordered the suspect to surrender, but he refused and barricaded himself inside, LAPD spokesman J. Chavez said, adding that the man was armed with a baseball bat.

Officers contained the area around the residence and a SWAT team was deployed to the property just south of Beverly Boulevard. The standoff ended approximately five hours later when the suspect surrendered without incident around 1:30 p.m., Chavez said. The suspect was not identified. Chavez said he is in his 20s.
