Detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department have arrested a 57-year-old suspect for the murders of three men whose bodies were found in a Hollywood apartment on July 29.

The LAPD announced the arrest of Patrick Kevin Spurlock, who was taken into custody on Aug. 14 in the 6600 block of Franklin Avenue. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed three counts of murder against Spurlock, with the special allegation he used a firearm to commit the murders. The charges also carry the special allegation that Spurlock has committed multiple previous felonies, including a 2005 conviction for second-degree murder in Washington State, and two previous charges of making criminal threats in Los Angeles. He is being held without bail.

Police released few details about the homicides and the motive. Investigators said the Spurlock and the three victims – Jeremy Badeker, 50, Jack Cartagena, 44, and Michael Bogacz, 33 – were gathered in an apartment in the 1900 block of North Wilcox Avenue during the early morning hours of July 24 when “an altercation occurred.” Spurlock allegedly ordered Badeker, Cartagena and Bogacz to lie on the floor and shot them multiple times.

Officers received a request for a welfare check at the apartment on July 29 and found the bodies. Media reports stated a sister of one of the victims called for the welfare check, but police declined to confirm who called.

Spurlock was arrested at an undisclosed location approximately three blocks from the homicide scene. The LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division, Homicide Special Section is continuing the investigation. Anyone with further information about the homicides is urged to call (213)486-6890.
