Adronite launches Codistry AI coding platform, claims half the token cost

Adronite Inc. today launched Codistry, an artificial intelligence coding platform for large enterprise codebases.

The platform runs on Adronite’s Context Engine, or ACE, which the company has patented. ACE builds a relational map of a codebase and keeps it current as the code changes. A model working on a task gets only the parts of that map the task requires. Indexing starts when the software is installed, and Adronite said the repository needs no extensive preparation beforehand.

Shipping large chunks of a codebase into a prompt on every request drives up token costs. ACE maps the codebase once and reuses that map. Prompts stay small as teams run more work through AI tools, according to the company.

Adronite ran its own benchmarks. Codistry used roughly half the tokens of Anthropic PBC’s Claude Code on comparable development tasks, the company said. Both tools ran Claude Opus 4.8 in the cloud. Average cost per task came in about 48% lower.

On the open-source backend project PocketBase, per-task cost fell from $2.12 to $1.10. Both runs used the same prompts, tooling and model settings, according to Adronite. The comparison was priced at standard non-batch rates, and the PocketBase figure includes Codistry’s onetime indexing cost spread across later tasks.

“AI coding tools often fail because they lack the context needed to understand how a codebase actually works,” said Chief Executive William Colleran. “Organizations shouldn’t have to choose between expensive frontier models, protecting their intellectual property or getting high-quality AI assistance.”

Chief Technology Officer Edward Rothschild said most AI coding platforms answer hard engineering problems by feeding “increasingly powerful models more context and tokens.” ACE supplies only the context a task needs when it needs it, he said. That leaves more of the model’s reasoning for the problem in front of it.

Codistry works with frontier models. Customers can also point it at open-weight models they host themselves. Deployment covers public and private cloud, on-premises servers and air-gapped environments. Source code never has to leave infrastructure the customer controls. Adronite is targeting regulated industries and midmarket companies, many of which cannot send proprietary code to an outside endpoint.

Adronite is also running a 72-hour developer challenge to promote the launch. Entrants work from a fixed token budget to build an interactive web app on Codistry, and submissions are scored on efficiency. First prize is $5,000, with developer-configured Mac minis for the runners-up.

Rothschild co-founded Adronite in Seattle in 2023 and ran it until Colleran, previously chief executive of RFID chipmaker Impinj Inc., took over in July. Gatemore Capital Management led a $5 million Series A round in February.
