Note "Type species: The genus Heterophenacia was originally established by Quatrefages (1866: 389) to include three species, Heterophenacia gigantea Quatrefages, 1866, Terebella comata Grube, 1859, and Terebella pustulosa Grube, 1860. Quatrefages did not designate a type species, nor any of the posterior authors seem to have designated one, or at least the present Editor was not able to find such a designation to exist. H. gigantea used to be cited as being the type species by monotypy, but this is not possible, as the genus was originally established for three different species." for taxon Heterophenacia Quatrefages, 1866 has been added by João Gil via the webinterface on 2026-08-16T18:03:14+00:00

Note

The genus Heterophenacia was originally established by Quatrefages (1866: 389) to include three species, Heterophenacia gigantea Quatrefages, 1866, Terebella comata Grube, 1859, and Terebella pustulosa Grube, 1860. Quatrefages did not designate a type species, nor any of the posterior authors seem to have designated one, or at least the present Editor was not able to find such a designation to exist. H. gigantea used to be cited as being the type species by monotypy, but this is not possible, as the genus was originally established for three different species.
