With eighteen years of experience on YouTube, certain tutorials remain valuable as evergreen content—reliable videos full of tips. With 6,800+ videos to access, certain videos are consistently used to push crocheters into either a new skill, up their skill level, or challenge them, where a tutorial helps the written instructions make more sense.
10 Most Helpful Tutorials of All Time with Mikey and The Crochet Crowd
In This ProjectThe selected videos are based on the interactions of the guests who view them. They are not necessarily the highest-performing videos, but they are the ones where crocheters stay the longest to follow along, solve issues, and pick up tips.
Viral Videos Contradict My GoalsGetting a viral video is nearly impossible, and the goal of reaching that level was quickly squashed in 2010 as the realization of the niche market for crochet made it harder. There are criteria for going viral, but it goes to levels that require you to shock, clickbait viewers, and, at times, display nonsense to get them to click the video. Once a crocheter feels duped, trust is broken.
Let's go through the list and determine why?
#1 Corner to Corner Masterclass for GraphgansIn cooperation with my dearest friend Repeat Crafter Me, this video was created to help both of us succeed in breaking down the steps of doing Corner to Corner in pictorial format.
Sarah, Repeat Crafter Me, excels in creating graphghans and motifs that are so delightful. The course I created takes crocheters from start to finish with the concept.
As always, I have laid the groundwork for you to create your own graphs to follow your own ideas, too. It's a fully immersive video to remove barriers to reading graphics, carrying yarn, and more.
Take what you learn and apply it to something else.
#2 Bernat Mystery Blanket
This one surprises me a lot. It's one of the first stitch-alongs ever filmed for Yarnspirations. This was originally the dark mystery, as the crocheters didn't know what the finished project would look like. This stitch along forced me to pick up new skills while building out a blanket from scratch using Bernat Blanket.
In fact, this used colors of yarn I never expected to use in my lifetime. It's not so much the blue color as the way the yarn is dyed.
This two-and-a-half-hour presentation goes through from start to finish. Crocheters can stop the video and resume when steps are completed.
The detail makes nearly beginner-level crocheters have a significant success story. Even almost ten years later, I still have this blanket. I loved it myself so much that I didn't donate it.
#3 Mystery Stitch Along X Marks the Spot
When Yarnspirations started in 2015, this was the very first stitch along ever produced for them. Today, it still gets a lot of attention from crocheters following the steps, as the written instructions are a bit complicated but simplified in tutorial format.
This X-Marks the Spot had things done with granny squares that I hadn't seen ever before. Layers of texture and even a unique way of joining the squares that I haven't ever used since then. It wasn't hard, but I forgot it exists.
This particular blanket can easily steal blue ribbons in a competition.
#4 Star Stitch Tutorial
The Crochet Star Stitch is presented in a dishcloth format, and following the instructions can be mind-boggling to achieve the dense texture shown in the example.
Crocheters have trusted this tutorial over the years to pick up a new skill or do a refresher. It's by far one of the best dishcloth stitches you can use.
#5 Crochet Corner to Corner
The original corner-to-corner blanket was filmed over a decade ago and is a highly reliable video for learning a new skill. At the time of filming, corner to corner was just starting to gain popularity. Since the filming, I've noticed that I and others end up with a diamond shape due to tension.
A second video was filmed demonstrating an alternative method for anchoring the stitches. I find the second video, personally, more helpful.
#6 Ultimate Workshop for Beginners
Timeless is the steps it takes to learn to crochet, from selecting crochet hooks and learning how to hold the yarn to getting set up on the basics of stitches to start a brand new hobby.
It's an entry point for someone looking at the hobby for the first time and discovering the skill sets it takes to move the hook, take a strand of yarn, and create something with it.
#7 Crocodile Stitch / Scale Stitch
The Crochet Crocodile Stitch is also known as a scale stitch. It was highly popular a decade ago, and with the right yarn, it can be really fun to pull this texture and coloring together.
It's a bit complicated, and the tutorial presentation destroys the mystery of the written words to show you how it is made.
As of 2026, the concept is starting to trend again as the gamers' trend of hoard bags and full projects or trim has the crocodile stitch.
#8 Textured Blanket For Beginners
This was the second pattern ever created for Yarnspirations, affectionately known as the Crochet Study of Texture. The Stitch, Stop and Roll Blanket was the first, but it didn't get very popular, though there was a tutorial for it.
Obsessed with the texture and usage of the self-striping yarn, which was relatively new back in 2017. This blanket has been completed by crocheters 1000's of times over.
#9 Peppermint Crochet Blanket
The Crochet Peppermint Blanket was filmed in 2014 and was created by Bendy Carter for Red Heart. It was a complex design at the time and still is today.
Its coloring is timeless, and this blanket is known for gathering up those blue ribbons in competitions. The tutorial goes through all of the motifs, joining, and right to the end of the journey.
#10 Crochet Hugs & Kisses Chevron Blanket
The Crochet Hugs and Kisses Chevron Blanket was the first of 15 patterns by Jeanne Steinhilber that used this stitch combination.
The tutorial breaks through the barrier of the instructions and the simplicity of the repetition. I wouldn't be surprised if over 20K examples of this blanket have been completed since its conception in 2017. It was created based on The Crochet Crowd's stitch game, and the spinning of the wheels put the stitches in this order, making it extremely desirable.
Jeanne fondly named this stitch layout concept Hugs & Kisses.
Tutorials are continually made for our YouTube Channel. We are only as popular as our next video project coming down the pipeline.
