Places rulers on your desktop, allowing you to get guidelines for dimensions and obtain a visual anchor on a large computer screen
Desktop rulers are designed to improve orientation on a wide monitor or high-resolution screen and provide focus points for your eyes. StaticDesktopRuler can place up to 20 click-through colorful rulers on your desktop, all designed to help you track information easier, set markers and focus points.
Add multiple colorful, click-through rulers on the desktopThe application comes with an install-free edition, meaning that it will be up and running as soon as you double-click on its main executable file.
The main window encompasses the basic settings that allow the configuration of rulers on the desktop. There are just a few customization options that allow you to set up the appearance of rulers. To be more specific, you can set the transparency level and the thickness of each ruler. StaticDesktopRuler comes with a set of predefined layouts, but you can always create more.
When fixed, all rulers are click-through, not interfering with windows or buttons behind them. With a single click, you can have them all removed, if needed.
Use colorful rulers for easier information reading and trackingWith the click of a button, you can add a new ruler onto the desktop. By default, StaticDesktopRuler assigns a new color to each, so you can manage them more easily.
Adding both vertical and horizontal rulers is possible, although I must mention that neither ruler is marked with units to measure distance, as you might expect. The purpose behind StaticDesktopRuler is to provide click-through rulers that allow information tracking in large data tables, setting up vertical or horizontal alignment guides, getting a reading aid, or setting simple markers either for applications or for games.
I tested StaticDesktopRuler on a worktation with two monitors, and I was able to move vertical rulers from one monitor to the other. On the downside, I could not get StaticDesktopRuler to place a horizontal ruler on the secondary screen.
Not indispensable for trained eyes, useful for some people
StaticDesktopRuler is, without a doubt, good for those who experience eye strain or losing focus points when reading, since it allows tracking text rows easier, but it might not be indispensable for trained eyes. With minimal resource requirements and a fly-out menu that allows quick access to its settings, this application can be of help if you need to maintain focus when in front of the PC.
