Designed for multi-monitor systems, this application can move a window to the next monitor while preserving its size and restore windows to their initial positions when the power state of a monitor is modified
JMoveIt is a lightweight software utility designed for users who prefer a multi-monitor setup. Standing for Just-Move-It, this application can move open windows from one monitor to another while preserving their size, as well as restore the initial position of windows when a monitor’s power state is modified.
Move foreground windows between monitors while preserving their sizeThe application requires no installation and can be launched directly from the downloaded archive. When closed, it keeps running in the background to do its job and can be easily accessed via the system tray area, without interfering with your work.
JMoveIt detects the foreground application and its title, as well as the UAC status, revealing the current position of the selected window (e.g. if the window is shown on the left screen, then JMoveIt displays the position and allows moving it to the monitor in the right).
With the click of a button, JMoveIt can move the selected window to the next monitor without you having to do this manually or by using the Win+Shift+[Left/Right] key combination.
But what is the benefit, you might ask. Well, should you use monitors with non-standard scaling or resolution, JMoveIt can make sure that the selected window is not resized and that its dimensions are preserved. Please keep in mind that the application is still in Beta and its actions depend on the OS and the monitor drivers. In fact, during my tests, the application failed to move the foreground window after I disconnected and reconnected the second monitor, so there definitely is room for improvement.
Restore the Windows positions when the power state of a monitor is changedAs for the second function of JMoveIt, it is suggestively called Monitor Watcher and it keeps a close eye on the power state of the connected monitors, detecting when they are powered off or enter sleep mode, all to be able to restore the original position of running applications on the right monitor.
You can also bring off-screen apps back using keyboard shortcuts or by enabling the "Remember window locations" function in the Windows 11 display settings. Should you not need this feature, you can disable it from the right-click menu in the tray area.
A tool for the easier management of windows on multi-monitor systemsJMoveIt or Just-Move-It is designed to move windows from one monitor to another without shrinking or modifying their size. Moreover, it restores the positions of opened windows when a monitor’s power state modifies. The tests revealed situations when the application did not work as planned, but it is understandable, since it is in its early development stages.
