Raycast is a powerful productivity application that streamlines interaction with Windows, allowing extended control from a single GUI to improve your workflow. 

Originally a native Mac OS app and a core tool for Mac users, it now supports Windows, providing a noticeable alternative not just to the built-in search tools of the operating system, but also to the much more decent PowerToys, the go-to app for power users.

Many of the features in the native Mac app are now ported to Windows, making apps, files and commands accessible from a single keyboard-driven interface. Raycast can act as a search tool, an application and game launcher, a multi-clipboard utility, a window management tool, and a system command control center. But let’s take a look at each one at a time. 

While the Windows integrated search capabilities have been improved over time, there are third-party applications, such as Everything, that provide a broader feature set. Raycast is another example, since it delivers a custom file indexer that can retrieve search results faster and easier, and with built-in preview options. With support for custom hotkeys and aliases, Raycast allows shortcuts to all applications, games and commands in an instant. 

The clipboard manager in Raycast allows revisiting and reusing copied data, be it text, images or links, reducing the need for repetitive tasks. Moreover, Raycast allows the convenient editing of copied text snippets and the management of copied items.

Routine tasks such as emptying the Recycle Bin, launching system apps, locking the screen or logging out, restarting and hibernating the PC are among the commands that you can quickly execute with Raycast. It allows management of opened windows, making it possible to move, resize, or snap windows using the keyboard. 

Additional productivity tools include searching for emojis or symbols to insert in a conversation, Quicklinks – which allows accessing favorite sites easier.   In the century we live in, there is no talking about productivity without bringing up the power of AI. Having that in mind, the developers of Raycast implemented Quick AI, an assistant ready to provide you with the answers you need without having to use a browser.

With all that it offers, Raycast is designed to streamline workflows, providing a fast command center for launching apps, managing windows, running commands and finding files. Its functionality can be, however, extended even further thanks to its support for extensions, many of which are already available for Windows, since the Raycast API is cross-platform.

While Raycast imports many functions originally available in the Mac app, it lacks a few features that are still in development, such as the built-in notes and cloud sync. Other than that, know that it delivers a native Windows look and feel to a productivity application that I personally found impressive, bundling search and launcher capabilities, clipboard and window management and a ready-to-use AI assistant with support for multiple LLMs.
