There are only so many ways to say a game is inspired by Star Fox before someone starts expecting a barrel roll, but Wild Blue Skies is at least refreshingly direct about what it wants to be. Chuhai Labs and Balor Games’ colorful on-rails aerial shooter is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S for $14.99.

Wild Blue Skies follows pilot Bowie Stray and the Blue Bombers, a squadron tasked with pushing back the forces of villain Grimclaw. Players fly through ocean, desert, and cave environments while shooting down enemy formations, taking on larger boss encounters, and hunting for alternate paths and secrets.

The setup will be immediately recognizable to anyone who spent the N64 era replaying Corneria for a slightly better score. That is not a complaint. On-rails shooters have never required an elaborate reinvention so much as good level design, sharp controls, memorable encounters, and enough hidden routes to make a second or tenth run worthwhile.

Wild Blue Skies leans into that arcade foundation with a score-focused progression system built around ribbons and medals. The game’s branching paths and hidden missions should also give score-chasers and completionists reasons to revisit stages, rather than treating the campaign as a one-and-done flight plan.

Visually, the game swaps Star Fox’s sci-fi hardware for a more colorful, anime-inspired world. The Blue Bombers themselves include Bowie alongside squadmates Roe, Thorne, and Chuck, who provide radio chatter throughout the campaign. The genre has always depended on personality as much as lock-on missiles, and no amount of cinematic scenery can replace a crew that makes a repeat run entertaining.

Wild Blue Skies is available now for $14.99 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game is also Steam Deck Verified, making it a potentially good fit for handheld play. A Nintendo Switch release is planned for fall 2026, though no specific date has been announced.
