In a world where many children are carrying stress, anxiety, loneliness, and self-doubt, Dreamcatchers for the Soul Foundation invites families to reconnect with something many of us have been missing: a sense of belonging.

On Saturday, Aug. 22, Dreamcatchers for the Soul will host its 13th annual Children of the Lotus Retreat at Miami Dade College North Campus. This year’s theme, “Root Chakra – Community Grounded: We Are One,” is rooted in a simple yet powerful belief that every child deserves to feel seen, valued, supported, and connected, while honoring the unique cultures, traditions, and experiences that make each of us who we are.

Designed for children, teens, parents, caregivers, and families, the retreat offers a day of healing, creativity, cultural celebration, and community connection.

Participants will enjoy African and Afro-Latin drumming, African dance, salsa, multicultural storytelling, art, poetry, creative writing, gardening, and planting activities for younger children. Storytellers from diverse cultural backgrounds will share traditions, wisdom, and stories that celebrate the richness of our community. Teens will participate in workshops that encourage confidence, self-expression, and personal growth, while parents and caregivers can restore and recharge in the Healing Room featuring massage, Reiki, and sound bowl healing.

“‘We Are One’ is not about erasing our differences,” said Pamella “Pema” Reid, founder and executive director of Dreamcatchers for the Soul Foundation. “It is about recognizing that every child, regardless of culture, background, neighborhood, or life experience, deserves to feel safe, loved, heard, valued, and connected. When children learn to appreciate both their own story and the stories of others, communities become stronger.”

For more than a decade, Dreamcatchers for the Soul has created safe, nurturing spaces where children and families can learn evidence-based mindfulness, movement, and creative practices that support emotional well-being, resilience, and self-discovery. To date, the organization has served more than 6,000 children and families across South Florida, creating safe spaces for healing, self-discovery, and connection.

The event is Saturday, Aug. 22, from 11 a.m.to 5 p.m., at Miami Dade College North Campus, Building 2, 11380 NW 27 Ave., Miami, FL 33167.

Organizers are seeking vendors, volunteers, storytellers and community partners.
