SemiFive’s revenue rose 97% from a year earlier to 94.7 billion won in the first half of this year. The company failed to turn profitable for the six-month period.

According to SemiFive on August 14, results improved as revenue from its application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) turnkey business, mass production and intellectual property (IP) grew across the board.

Operating loss was 10.9 billion won, narrowing from 28.1 billion won a year earlier. SemiFive posted an operating profit of about 100 million won in the second quarter, but remained in the red for the first half because of the 11 billion won operating loss accumulated in the first quarter.

ASIC-related revenue reached 54.1 billion won in the first half, more than doubling from a year earlier. SemiFive provides semiconductor logic and physical design, packaging, testing and software development as an integrated service.

Mass-production revenue was 42.3 billion won, about twice the 21.2 billion won in orders secured for the full year last year. Overseas customers accounted for about 45% of the total. Mass-production revenue is generated whenever chips are manufactured using masks designed by SemiFive.

Revenue at subsidiary Analog Beats also increased. First-half revenue reached 32.5 billion won, exceeding its full-year revenue of 30.5 billion won last year. New orders totaled 32.1 billion won, or 77.3% of its full-year order value of 41.5 billion won. Analog Beats supplies IP needed for semiconductor design and is included in SemiFive’s consolidated results.

SemiFive is expected to generate more than 200 billion won in revenue this year. Newly secured orders total 118.9 billion won. Revenue is recognized in stages depending on the progress of each project.
