*NO* Mega Man 9 "Mega Sugar Rush"

Дата публикации: 05-07-2026 03:41:42

Mega Sugar Rush by dolphin92329.
This remix is a metal remix of the Mega Man 9 (2008) Wily Theme.  The Shop Theme in middle of remix is secondary.  Clean guitars, but I still call it metal.  Whole remix is chaotic like the Wily OST theme with a calm interlude in between.  I thought the Wily OST theme here went really well with the feel of the Mega Man 9 game.  All moments Mega Man endures lead up to this seemingly impossible Wily boss to surpass.  All hands on deck, code red, this is not a drill!  Metal and nu metal are some of my favorite genres, a source of inspiration here, which can be heard best at 3:42 to 4:07.
Drum kit:  I have a $35 pair of Heyday earbuds and found they do not very well carry the high frequencies on my preferred settings, so I made the cymbals to compensate for the difference.  It doesn’t sound that bad on my monitors either.  Also, the bass drum is OK, but far from how I imagined it would become… oh well.  I did not put the fast bass drums in more than two spots for enjoyment of the traditional OST.
Mixing/Mastering:  I spent about 120-150 hours on this, including resting my ears.  No worries if this is not accepted.  It is a “trials and tribulations” song for me really.  Each track starts with the Millennia NSEQ-2 equalizer and contains a psychoacoustic plugin and a console somewhere in each track (SPL Vitalizer MK3-T, AMEK 200).  Those who are wondering, by chance, if the SpecCraft plugin is worth it, I myself think it is.  I tried to not overuse it, and you can hear it most with my mixing in the lower-mid region.  Other plugins used of course.  There’s more I could do, but prefer not to spend an additional 50-75 hours to make it surgically precise here.  And no, I don’t entirely know what I am doing :)

Reference tracks: Iowa album by Slipknot.

0:00 - 0:25 -- Introduction.  Extended remix form.  Overall song is chaotic like the OST (with exception of Shop Theme in middle of remix).
0:25 - 0:38 -- Secondary introduction.  It's remixed three total times to extend song with a brief drum breakdown.
0:38 - 1:28 -- Traditional OST sound.  I'm looking for a more conservative feel for the whole remix.  Bass guitar in first repetition plays different lower notes for style.
1:28 - 2:02 -- Repeat of the introduction, but remixed to extend song.
2:02 - 2:40 -- Shop Theme with Roll!  There's multiple time signatures used here, and the drum kit utilizes different irregular groupings here as well.  This section is like the eye of a hurricane, calmness surrounded by madness!
2:40 - 2:53 -- Literal approach to the OST's introduction to their main section.
2:53 - 3:18 -- Main section 1 of 4.  This section is very technical and you may not understand it at first, if at all, which is fine.  All the notes here use C# harmonic minor like the OST.  If this section is not liked, please consider main section 3 of 4 to be make up!  I wrote this section, listened to this again half a year later, and wondered what I was thinking.  I do hear the resonance I was remixing now.  Very technical!
3:18 - 3:42 -- Main section 2 of 4.  Straight-up OST remix.
3:42 - 4:07 -- Main section 3 of 4.  No-bull composition of mine based entirely from the OST.  Has a feel of redemption and triumph.
4:07 - 4:31 -- Main section 4 of 4.  Straight-up OST remix.
4:31 - 4:43 -- Outro.  Three total times of the concluding OST section.  Tempo tapers off to the end of the remix.
