Google is rolling out AI Inbox in Gmail to paid Google Workspace customers, according to an official Google Workspace Updates announcement. The feature, first introduced in January, is limited at launch to users in the United States whose account language is set to US English.
AI Inbox goes further than the single-thread Gemini summaries that Gmail has offered for the past year. Instead of waiting for a user to open an email and request a recap, Gmail scans incoming messages and builds a live briefing of deadlines and status updates.
How Gmail's AI Inbox WorksAI Inbox does not replace the traditional chronological inbox. Google places it as a separate view in the Gmail navigation menu, both in the desktop web client and in the mobile app, and it centers on two views:
Workspace administrators do not need to change anything in the Admin console. The view appears automatically in the Gmail menu for eligible users. Google describes the launch as requiring zero admin setup.
For users, the practical change is that tasks buried in a thread no longer have to be copied by hand into a separate notes or to-do app.
Gmail AI Inbox Rollout Schedule and Eligible Workspace PlansGoogle is staggering the deployment across Workspace domains over the coming weeks:
At launch, AI Inbox is available to Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, and Frontline Plus subscribers. Google says Business Starter, Enterprise Starter, and AI Pro for Education accounts will get the feature over the next few months.
Workspace users who do not see AI Inbox yet should check two things: whether their account language is set to US English, and whether their domain is on the Rapid Release or Scheduled Release track.
Users on the Scheduled Release track will not get the view before October 26. Accounts on the same plan can receive it at different times during the rollout window.
Google has not announced when AI Inbox will expand to additional languages or markets outside the United States.
