Mobile controllers have gotten considerably better, but there’s still a tradeoff between something small enough to carry everywhere and something that feels like a full-featured console controller. Abxylute is tackling both sides of that problem with its new M5 and M6 Mobile Controllers, now seeking funding through Kickstarter. Both use a sliding design with a magnetic phone mount and support multiple control configurations. Xinput Mode targets Android games, cloud gaming, and remote play, while NS Mode mimics Nintendo Switch controls and PS Mode provides a PlayStation-style layout for iPhone games.
The M6 is the feature-heavy option. It supports Bluetooth 5.3 or a wired USB-C connection and uses compact capacitive thumbsticks with a 20-degree range of movement. Linear triggers can switch into Hair Trigger Mode for shorter travel, while a customizable Z button can replicate L3, R3, another action button, or execute multi-step macros. The M6 also packs four levels of adjustable vibration, six-axis gyro controls, and a 500mAh battery rated for up to 10 hours of play.
Abxylute takes a considerably different approach with the M5. At just 8.5mm thick at its slimmest point, it’s designed primarily around portability. Bluetooth and batteries are gone entirely, with the controller connecting directly through USB-C. Low-profile thumbsticks include clickable LS and RS inputs, while tactile triggers and a Z-axis linear vibration motor round out the core controls.
Both controllers work with the free abxy App for iOS and Android, which can adjust settings including thumbstick sensitivity, trigger travel, deadzones, and lighting. M6 owners also get touchscreen mapping built into the controller firmware, allowing touchscreen controls to be assigned to physical buttons. Community-created profiles can then be shared with other users.
An optional Magnetic Grip Attachment is included for players wanting a more traditional grip during longer sessions. Kickstarter backers can also choose a translucent green M5 Founder’s Edition with a customizable two-letter badge.
The M6 has an $89.99 MSRP, with Early Bird Kickstarter pricing starting at $65 before moving to $69. The M5 carries an $84.99 MSRP, with Early Bird pledges starting at $59 and regular Kickstarter pricing at $65.
The M5 and M6 Kickstarter campaign is live now and is scheduled to run for 40 days.
