A video is being shared on social media (here, here, and here) with claims that it allegedly shows the Chief of the Army Staff, General Dhiraj Seth, dancing with Supreet Sapra, described as the wife of an Army major. The video features a purported CNN headline stating, “Indian Army Chief Dhiraj Seth Spotted Dancing with Army Major’s wife Supreet Sapra,” giving the impression that CNN published the video. Let’s verify the truth behind the video in this article.
The archived post can be found here.Claim: The video shows Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth dancing with Supreet Sapra, the wife of an Army major.
Fact: The video has been digitally manipulated to make it appear as though Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth is dancing with Supreet Sapra. CNN has not published any report or headline matching the one shown in the viral video. The original video, shared in March 2026, features a different man and woman dancing at a gathering. Supreet Sapra has also clarified that she is not an Army major’s wife and that the woman shown in the viral video is AI-generated. The Indian Army’s fact-check wing has also confirmed that the video is digitally manipulated. Hence, the claim made in the post is FALSE.
To verify the claim, we conducted a Google search using relevant keywords but found no credible reports carrying the viral footage on CNN’s official website or any report or headline matching the one circulating with the video.
Upon closely reviewing the viral video, we noticed several inconsistencies. Though the man and woman appear to be dancing while holding glasses, the liquid inside them does not move or splash naturally as they dance. In one frame, the man’s ear and cheek area also appear smudged, while the faces of people in the background appear heavily blurred. The man’s face remains almost completely frozen with a wide smile throughout the video, further raising signs of AI manipulation.

We then ran the video through multiple AI detection tools, including DetectVideo AI and Meta AI’s verification platform. Both assessed the clip as likely AI-generated and detected AI signatures in the video.

The viral video contains an inset photograph showing a woman with a different man wearing a defence uniform. To learn more about the photograph, we conducted a reverse image search, which led us to an Instagram post (archived) by @sufimeranaam, dated 22 February 2026, featuring the same image. Newschecker contacted the account user regarding the viral video. She identified herself as Supreet Sapra and said, “I am Supreet Sapra, but I am not a major’s wife. My husband retired four years ago. The woman in the video is AI-generated, so apart from the name, everything is misinformation.”

Further investigation led us to an Instagram post (archived) by Rhythm Gupta, shared on 11 March 2026, with the caption, “Always dancing weirdly.” The video features a man and a woman dancing at a gathering. Their dance movements, the way they hold their glasses, and the song playing in the background are the same as those in the viral video. Although the background differs in colour and certain visual details, the overall setting and arrangement of elements are similar, and the movements of people around the dancing pair also closely resemble. This indicates that the viral video was likely manipulated using the earlier footage to make it appear as though the Army Staff chief was dancing with an Army major’s wife. Comparison of screengrabs from the viral clip and the Instagram video can be seen below.

The Indian Army’s fact-checking wing also clarified in an X post (archived) on 29 September 2026 that the viral video is digitally manipulated and fake.
