Parts of the Chicago area will remain under a heat advisory on Thursday, with multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms expected in coming days.
According to the National Weather Service, the existing heat advisory will be allowed to expire at 9 p.m. Wednesday in parts of the area closer to Lake Michigan, including McHenry, Lake, Kane, DuPage and Cook counties.
The advisory has been extended in DeKalb, LaSalle, Kendall, Grundy, Will and Kankakee counties in Illinois, along with all of northwest Indiana, until 9 p.m. on Thursday.
In those areas, heat indices are expected to once again rise into the triple-digits on Thursday, with high temperatures in the low-to-mid 90s according to forecast models.
In addition to the heat and humidity however, the Chicago area could see a chance of multiple waves of showers and thunderstorms on Thursday, and though severe weather isn’t expected, there is still a chance of heavy rain, gusty winds and frequent lightning.
One round of showers and storms could sweep through the area in the morning, and another chance for storms could arrive in the evening or even into the overnight hours.
A similar pattern is possible on Friday, with showers and storms both in the morning and late in the evening, with some storms potentially sticking around until early Saturday morning.
While temperatures Friday could still be around 90 degrees, those readings are expected to start slowly declining as Labor Day weekend gets underway, with readings potentially dipping into the low-80s by the end of the weekend.
Next week could also see more pleasant conditions, with highs in the upper-70s and low-80s according to forecast models.
