Lose your faith
Asdivine Knot stars Verselio who becomes disillusioned after finding out that his faith was in a false deity which sets him off to avenge everyone he's wronged in the name of his beliefs. This theme of being an outcast on a mission is reflected in many of the characters and I loved every single one of them in their own unique ways. I particularly appreciate Josephine who's a tall and super-strong woman who doesn't take any guff and is a leader in every sense of the word. Anyway, you're also joined by a healer named Marlie, a down-to-earth chief named Rhys, and a rock star named Musika who's the leader of a group that worships a dark deity and recruits folks through the power of rock; how hilariously awesome is that?! This is my favourite cast in any modern retro-style RPG that I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Yay! 🥳 v1d30chumz zbcyzbqyzwyztq
I love being sandwiched between a fluffy cutie and a penguin
Explore the lands
Asdivine Knot takes a while to get going as the opening hours lead up to you restoring an airship that you then use to traverse the overworld with which is broken up into 4 distinct quadrants via magical walls which is highly imaginative and I really appreciate this approach to creating a game world. As you fly around, complete quests for locals, and traverse dungeons, there's a solid sense of satisfaction to it all but everything's still rather predictable. For example, the dungeon designs do very little to deviate from what you'd expect with standard branching paths and hidden walls that usually lead to treasures. There are optional puzzle-oriented dungeons which is great and, overall, the game world is certainly diverse and interesting enough to hold your attention even when you're not doing anything particularly exciting. 🧭
Fight monstersThe combat system in Asdivine Knot is very simple and intuitive with core mechanics that'll have you attacking and using abilities that deplete your MP while possibly having an area of effect with potential elemental weaknesses in-play. Although levelling-up, learning new skills, and increasing your rank to really enhance your capabilities are all rewarding moments, the combat shines brightest with its Nexus system. As you fight, a gauge increases and any party member can decide to use it when it's their turn in order to unleash an extra-powerful ability. Whether you use this to damage your foes or raise your defenses adds some strategy and I love spending a full meter to summon a beast which always looks cool. However, I wish there was more sense of strategy because the battle system is rather simple even with this nifty gauge. ⚔️
What an eclectic group of enemies!
Level-up and conquer
A lot of elements within Asdivine Knot's growth systems are reliant on materials which is rather clever as you can break things down and upgrade stuff however you see fit. The most substantial aspect with all of this is that you can build and upgrade rooms in your airship and doing so expands what you're capable of which is crucial if you want to get the most out of the crafting system as you earn the ability to disassemble stuff, create new items, and all that jazz. When it comes to your party, you can equip the best gear, pour money into upgrading equipment, and use stat-boosting items but that's about it. Although I appreciate all of the crafting options, party growth is very linear and not as satisfying as it is in similar games so I wish there were skill trees and things like that. Placing enhancements in your gear is fun, though. 💎
Yes, it's time we wrap this up...
Asdivine Knot is a highly entertaining old-school RPG with a wonderful cast and intuitive gameplay so definitely play it if you enjoy retro RPGs.
