The Ukrainian national football team will play its home match against the Hungarian national team in the UEFA Nations League Division B in Trnava, Slovakia (Nagyszombat).

The Ukrainian side has chosen the city, located about 50 kilometers northeast of Bratislava (Pozsony), as the venue for the October 5 match due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, the Hungarian Football Federation (MLSZ) announced Monday via its social media page.

Hungary’s national team, coached by Marco Rossi, will begin its autumn campaign on September 25 with a home match at Puskás Aréna in Budapest—coincidentally against Ukraine.

Just three days later, on September 28, Hungary will travel to Belfast to face Northern Ireland. In the third round, on October 2, Hungary will host Georgia at Puskás Aréna, where this year’s UEFA Champions League final also took place.

On October 5, Hungary will then play its away match against Ukraine in Trnava before the group stage concludes with the final two match days in November.

The final standings of the four-team group will determine promotion and relegation in late autumn:

• 1st place: Direct promotion to Division A.
• 2nd place: Promotion/relegation playoff against a third-placed team from Division A for a spot in the top division.
• 3rd place: Relegation playoff against a second-placed team from Division C to remain in Division B.
• 4th place: Direct relegation to Division C.

In the latest FIFA World Ranking, Hungary’s men’s national team remained in 39th place, putting them in the middle of their Nations League group in terms of ranking. Ukraine, ranked 33rd, is nominally the strongest opponent, while Northern Ireland is ranked 70th and Georgia 72nd.
