Parents often focus on the number of bedrooms when shopping for a home, but their size can be just as important. Generous dimensions allow the rooms to remain functional as children outgrow smaller furniture and spend more time studying, relaxing and socializing.

This need is addressed in the Carisa 2 by Hopewell Residential. Measuring 1,802 square feet, this front-drive single-family model is now displayed in Hotchkiss. The new southeast Calgary community is positioned roughly five minutes south of Ralph Klein Park.

All three upstairs bedrooms are generously proportioned. The primary suite measures 14 feet one inch by 12 feet one inch, while the secondary bedrooms are above average, measuring 12 feet one inch by 10 feet three inches and 12 feet one inch by nine feet 10 inches.

To make one of the secondary bedrooms feel even more spacious, the show home uses a raised metal loft bed with a full-length desk beneath, creating a dedicated workspace without reducing usable floor space.

A well-sized central bonus room creates a buffer between the secondary bedrooms and the primary suite while drawing in a high volume of natural light through windows overlooking the stairs.

In the primary bedroom, the ensuite is a highlight. It boasts a large shower with full-height tile and a glass door, and a vanity with two sinks beneath a full-width mirror.

The rectangular walk-in closet is accessed through the ensuite, creating a more efficient sequence for showering, dressing and getting ready.

Downstairs, the L-shaped kitchen is arranged around a large island that combines food preparation and casual dining in one central workspace. It includes a sink and eating bar that seats at least three people.

Long stretches of counter space line the perimeter, joined by extensive upper and lower cabinets for storage. Stainless steel appliances, including a chimney-style hood fan, are paired with a full-height backsplash.

A walk-through pantry connects the cooking space to the mudroom, creating a convenient path for bringing groceries in from the car and putting them away without carrying bags through the main living areas.

The mudroom features built-in lockers with hooks, open shelving and lower baskets to organize coats, bags, shoes and other everyday items.

The kitchen faces the rear-facing dining area and great room as part of an open-concept layout. Both spaces feel larger than they typically would because the staircase is positioned just off the foyer rather than within the main living area, allowing more space to be dedicated to the kitchen, dining and living areas.

Ideal for people who work remotely, a pocket office is located just off the foyer. This location is handy for collecting work-related deliveries and greeting clients without walking them through the more personal ends of the main floor.

For homeowners looking to offset mortgage payments, the basement offers flexibility with the option of a legal suite. This show home demonstrates how the space can function as a separate living area for a tenant.

Along with two bedrooms and a bathroom, the suite includes a kitchen, rec area and laundry area, creating a self-sufficient space similar to an apartment.
