Scenic City Clay Arts will celebrate its 10th anniversary with “War of the Wheels,” a one-of-a-kind pottery competition on Tuesday, Sept. 29, from 6-8 p.m. at Mac Avenue Event Space.

The event will bring together six Chattanooga potters for a live, wheel-to-wheel pottery throwdown where creativity, skill and a little friendly competition take center stage. Guests can influence the competition through SCCA’s “boosts” and “busts,” using donations to give competitors advantages or throw unexpected challenges their way.

“War of the Wheels is a celebration of everything we love about SCCA — clay, community, creativity and a little bit of chaos,” said Madeline Wright, Executive Director of Scenic City Clay Arts. “Ten years is a huge milestone for us, and we wanted to celebrate in a way that feels uniquely SCCA while also supporting the work that makes our mission possible.”

In addition to the live pottery competition, the evening will feature food and drinks from local vendors such as Riverside Canning and Hutton & Smith, Chattanooga Whiskey, and more. There will also be a silent auction and opportunities to connect with Chattanooga’s thriving clay community. Proceeds from the event will support Scenic City Clay Arts’ mission of making clay arts more accessible through education, community outreach and access to its nonprofit community studio.

“Access is at the heart of everything we do,” said Wright. “Every ticket, every bid and every donation helps us put clay into more hands in Chattanooga and create opportunities for people who might not otherwise have access to ceramics.”

Tickets go on sale Tuesday, Aug. 4. Tickets range from $55 to $95 and include perks such as drink tickets, heavy hors d’oeuvres, silent auction access and viewing the throwdown competition. VIP tickets include perks like early entry and the chance to try the pottery wheel at the event, while a $75 supporter ticket includes a contribution to SCCA’s scholarship fund.
