PHILADELPHIA — We’re only a few weeks from the NFL season, so as the Phillies board the flight for their West Coast road trip Sunday night, they’ll be rocking jerseys of their favorite NFL players.

Wearing their favorite NFL jerseys has become a tradition for Phillies players. Here’s a look at some of the jerseys that will be worn for Sunday’s flight to Seattle:

• Kyle Schwarber: Chad Johnson, Cincinnati Bengals (he said he wished the jersey said “Ochocinco” on the back instead of “Johnson”)
• Edmundo Sosa: Cooper DeJean, Philadelphia Eagles (Kelly Green)
• Garrett Stubbs: Clay Matthews, Green Bay Packers
• Derek Hill: Eric Dickerson, Los Angeles Rams
• Justin Crawford: DeSean Jackson, Philadelphia Eagles (This is a Midnight Green jersey, with Crawford saying that DeSean was his favorite player.)
• Brandon Marsh: Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona Cardinals
• Alex McFarlane: Rob Gronkowski, New England Patriots
• Jonathan Bowlan: Jake Elliott, Philadelphia Eagles (he noted that Elliott, like him, played collegiately at the University of Memphis)
• Alec Bohm: Ndamukong Suh, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
• Chase Shugart: Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints (This is a white Super Bowl XLIV jersey.)
• Jesús Luzardo: Michael Vick, Philadelphia Eagles (This is the Kelly Green jersey the Eagles wore in Week 1 of the 2010 NFL season against the Packers, the game that Vick revived his career in.)

This isn’t a full list, because some players haven’t gotten their jerseys yet, wanted their jersey to be a surprise or weren’t available Saturday afternoon.

The Phillies used five arms out of the bullpen in relief of Jesús Luzardo in Friday’s 7-6 extra-inning win over the St. Louis Cardinals. None were Jonathan Bowlan, despite him being their second-best reliever for much of the season. After the game, interim manager Don Mattingly revealed Bowlan was unavailable — even though the Phillies had just had an off day Thursday — because he had a heavy workload before the off day.

Mattingly elaborated Saturday on how the Phillies arrived at Bowlan being down for Friday’s game.

“We’re just watching him, and we kind of go day-to-day on the medical, and that’s where we kind of make decisions if they’re on the board,” Mattingly said. “… [Head athletic trainer] Paul [Buchheit] may say, ‘Hey, we gotta keep him down today.’ It could be he’s good that way, and then out here he’s playing catch and he gives the answer that’s like, ‘Yeah, I’m alright.’ And then we’re gonna be careful.

“And that’s with every guy. So it’s not just with him, it’s kinda everybody, the same way.”

It’s a delicate balance for the Phillies. The 29-year-old Bowlan has already had 49 appearances in 2026. He had 58 between Triple-A and the majors last season for the Kansas City Royals. The Phillies don’t want him to get injured or be gassed when the playoffs roll around. But they also have to get to the postseason, and Bowlan has a 2.89 ERA across 46 2/3 innings pitched this season.

Other Nuggets

• Bryson Stott isn’t in the lineup Saturday against Cardinals lefty Quinn Mathews. Mattingly said this isn’t about resting Stott, but just that he wants to make sure all the right-handed bats stay sharp. Edmundo Sosa is in at third base, with Bryan De La Cruz in left field and Derek Hill in center field.

• Tanner Banks (left forearm strain) threw a live batting practice session of around 30 pitches Saturday afternoon. It was his second live, and it seems that if he comes in feeling fine on Sunday, the lefty could be headed towards a rehab stint while the Phillies are on the road. From talking to Mattingly — and also from the fact that he threw around 30 pitches — you get the sense that Banks is likely going to be more than a three-out reliever if he’s able to get back this season.
