Under the partnership, all 85 institutes of the Max Planck Society will gain unlimited access to De Gruyter Brill’s entire journal portfolio, comprising approximately 800 journals and including journals published by imprints such as De Gruyter Oldenbourg, De Gruyter Mouton, Brill Fink, and brill mentis.

De Gruyter Brill and the Max Planck Society have concluded a two-year open access agreement.
Furthermore, the agreement enables researchers at the Max Planck Society to publish open access without restriction and at no direct cost to authors in all of De Gruyter Brill’s Subscribe-to-Open, hybrid, and Gold Open Access journals.
The agreement with the Max Planck Society is based on De Gruyter Brill’s “All Inclusive” model. Under this single agreement, institutions gain unlimited access to the entire journal portfolio as well as unlimited open access publishing rights across all subject areas and open access models. In doing so, these agreements actively support the global transition to open access.
The agreement reflects the growing commitment of both institutions to open science by enabling researchers from the Max Planck Society to publish their research open access without any direct costs for authors.
“This new contract with De Gruyter Brill allows us to further expand the services provided by the Max Planck Digital Library regarding both reading access and open access publishing. We are pleased to extend our offerings for MPG researchers through a partnership that is particularly significant for the humanities and social sciences – fully in line with the Max Planck Society’s open access strategy,” said Ádám Dér, Head of Scientific Information Provision at the Max Planck Digital Library.
“The transition to Open Access is a central part of our mission to make science accessible. Our partnership with the Max Planck Society marks a significant milestone on this journey. We are delighted that it will be even easier for Max Planck Society researchers now to read our content and publish Open Access with De Gruyter Brill,” said Ben Ashcroft, Chief Commercial Officer at De Gruyter Brill.
