Lewis Hamilton: 'The car just wasn't working for me'

Lewis Hamilton on the car: 'Not that great. Yesterday we were looking relatively competitive.

'I was trying to recover in qualifying and struggled with grip. The car just wasn't working for me.

'Everyone has had tyre graining and we had it like everybody. How you manage it and how you progress and push tomorrow [will be a big factor].

Red Bull principal Christian Horner: We only had three sets of tyres for qualifying

He told Sky Sports: 'We only took three sets of tyres into qualifying. We did the lap a little earlier but he was a tenth short.'

Pundits are baffled as to why Red Bull only had three sets of tyres for qualifying.

Sergio Perez on decision to pit in Q2: That was our strategy but the track caught us out

Sergio Perez told Sky Sports: 'That was our stategy from the beginning but the track caught us out. It's something we will discuss internally. We were lucky to get through in Q1 already.

'Tomorrow is going to be an interesting race because a lot of things can happen.'

Charles Leclerc is 'disappointed' with Q3 laps despite pole position
He told Sky Sports: 'I'm happy to take the first pole in Las Vegas, it's an incredible event.
'To be starting from pole is great. However, I'm a bit disappointed about my laps in Q3. I didn't do a good enough job but it was enough for P1 and that's all we need.
'Now it's full focus to try and put everything together for the race. Normally, that's where we lack most performance so I hope we can put it all together and win here."
Carlos Sainz: Outstanding job, but still disappointed and in a 'very bad mood'

Calos Sainz came second in qualifying but will start 12th after his contentious ten-place grid penalty.

He told Sky Sports: 'First of all an outstanding job by the whole team. We dominated qualifying together after a tough Friday yesterday. We put together the whole car and to get a front-row lockout is incredible.
'Obviously I would love to be on pole because then I would start 11th instead of 12th but we did the maximum that we could today, Still disappointed with yesterday [and the penalty]. Not going to lie, still on a very bad mood and trying not to show it too much. But it is what it is.
'[The race] depends how the start goes and the graining on the tyres is. And then how easy it is to overtake. The pace, it clearly looks like we have it this weekend and I would love to be fighting for the win tomorrow with Charles and Max.
'But unfortunately I’m going to be on the comeback mode and a comeback race. Hopefully I can get to the front at some point and battle with them but I think it’s going to be tricky.”
We'll get you quotes from the drivers shortly!
Charles Leclerc is on pole!

WOW! What a session! Charles Leclerc is on pole once again, but he hasn't won from the previous 12 times he's been in that position. Ferrari's pace this weekend has been venemous - could he take home 25 points?

Due to Carrlos Sainz's grid penalty, every driver below him on this list will move up one place. That'll be a row three lock-out for Williams - excellent for them.

1) Charles Leclerc (1:32:726)

2) Carlos Sainz (+0.44) (+ten-place grid drop)

3) Max Verstappen (+0.378)

4) George Russell

5) Pierre Gasly

6) Alex Albon

7) Logan Sargeant

8) Valtteri Bottas

9) Kevin Magnussen

10) Fernando Alonso

Verstappen looking slower!

He's off Leclerc's pace so far on his final lap!

Final minute

The classification is so far unchanged from a few minutes ago. Still waiting for times from three drivers.

Three minutes left in Q3

Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz still lead Max Verstappen. Could it all change?

George Russell fifth-fastest so far

George Russell, Mercedes' only car in Q3, coughs up the fifth best time with less than five minutes to go.

It's two tenths slower than his Q2 time, though. Could have done better.
