Karen Ann (Womack) McNutt died on August 12, 2026, from complications from Alzheimer’s.

She was born on July 20, 1953, on the military base in Riverside, Ca., and grew up in Memphis, Tn. and Mobile, Al. She attended the University of Alabama and was an avid Crimson Tide fan her whole life. Karen was an excellent cook and was the chef at the old Vine Street Market for several years. Her maternal family are all from Iceland, and she took great pride in all things Icelandic including her menus.

Her parents were Gerda Jonfridur Arthursdottir from Akranes, Iceland, and Jack Womack. Her unforgettable stepfather was Harry J. Cougan, the life of every party.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert J. (Bob) McNutt; her son, Glenn J. McNutt (companion Lindsay Wallin); brother, Arthur Womack (Beverly) of New Bern, NC; brother, Karl Cougan; and sister, Sharen Womack Green (Jack) of Foley, Al.

The family thanks Hearth Hospice for its professional and compassionate end-of-life care. A very special thanks to her caregiver Tabitha Trusley.

A reception will be held at the home of Bob McNutt on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 505 Lytle Street from 4-6 p.m.
