Jerry "Joe" Gilbert Edwards

Jerry, or "Joe" as he was affectionately known to family and friends, was born on Feb. 3, 1941, in Tellico Plains, Tn..

Joe is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Sandra Edwards, his daughters, Leah Edwards (Jason Porta) of Boulder, Co., Valerie Johnson (David Johnson) of Chattanooga, and his four beloved grandchildren.

Born to the late Maurice and Pauline Roberts Edwards, he deeply loved his parents, his brothers and sisters, and all of his many nieces and nephews. Joe met Sandra in Atlanta in the summer of 1963 and they married in the fall of 1964. They enjoyed many years with their friends in Atlanta and raised their girls in Lawrenceville, yet the mountains always held their hearts.

Joe brought optimism and a kind word or joke to every conversation. He was a keen mathematician with a strong eye for detail and an unparalleled work ethic, all of which shone through in the quality of his construction and grading work and the beautiful homes that he designed and built for his family. He was a lifelong Braves fan and would never turn down a chance to watch sports with his loved ones, especially his favorite Jasmine. From his kindness and lifelong partnership with Sandra to his unwavering support and love for his daughters and grandchildren, he will be remembered most for his love and dedication to his family.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Cheryl Vickers, Hearth Hospice, and Hickory Valley Senior Living Community for the care, comfort, and support provided.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 29, at 11 a.m. at Ironsburg Cemetery with Rev. Laura Becker presiding. His family will gather with friends after the service at Sandy Lane Community Church, 11137 New Highway 68, Tellico Plains, from 11:45 a.m. until 1:45 p.m.
