This easy Boursin orzo bake is the ultimate comfort food with creamy and delicious Boursin cheese. Made with simple ingredients it is ready in just 30 minutes with minimal effort.

A dish filled with baked orzo topped with basil next to a wood spoon.

Creamy Boursin cheese melts into the orzo, creating a rich, garlicky sauce, while fresh cherry tomatoes add a burst of flavor and spinach wilts perfectly into the dish.

This Boursin baked orzo is also incredibly versatile—serve it as a standalone vegetarian meal, or pair it with baked chicken kabobs, grilled Italian shrimp, or air fryer filet mignon for added protein. If you love my Boursin cheese pasta, you’ll love this recipe!

Why This Baked Orzo Is The Best

Inspired by my viral baked goat cheese pasta, I wanted to create an easy baked orzo made with my go-to cheese for easy cooking. Everything bakes in the oven, making it a hands-off, one-pan wonder that’s as simple as it is satisfying.

You’ll love this creamy boursin orzo because:

  • Easy – Everything bakes in one dish in the oven – no boiling orzo or stirring!
  • Flavorful – A great combination of garlic and herbs with fresh vegetables.
  • Customizable – Pair with additional vegetables like asparagus, a protein, or top with crunchy panko breadcrumbs for an elevated holiday side dish.
  • Family friendly – This recipe is a crowd pleaser and works well as a main dish or side dish.

It’s Mediterranean diet friendly, migraine diet compliant, and gluten free and dairy free with edits.

Ingredients Boursin orzo ingredients on a white background.

Here are a few of the main ingredients with notes. You can find the full recipe card at the bottom of this page.

  • Orzo – I use the DeLallo or Barilla brand. I especially like Barilla for baked dishes.
  • Boursin cheese – Start with Boursin Garlic & Herb cheese, which you can find for a great deal at Costco or Trader Joe’s. Other types will work here, but this one is the best.
  • Fresh tomatoes – Fresh cherry tomatoes are best for these one-pan baked dishes without making them watery. Sun-dried tomatoes would also work.
  • Spinach – This could be substituted with chopped kale or arugula.
  • Broth – I recommend a rotisserie chicken broth for one without onion, or Trader Joe’s Hearty Vegetable.
  • Italian seasoning – For recipe testing, I used Lighthouse Italian herb blend.
Substitutions
  • Gluten free – Use a brand of gluten free orzo. Jovial is usually my favorite. This may have a different cooking time.
  • Dairy free – Boursin makes a dairy-free boursin cheese. This would not qualify for HYH, but fine for other types of diets.
  • Added protein – Serve this recipe as a side dish, or stir in pre-cooked chicken or shrimp at the end of baking. You’ll love this Boursin chicken orzo bake and Mediterranean salmon orzo bake too!
How to Make a Boursin Orzo Bake
A Boursin orzo bake with fresh basil on top in a white casserole dish.
  • Step 5: Add salt and fresh black pepper to taste. Top with fresh basil leaves.
Storage and Reheating

Refrigerator – Store in an air tight container for up to 3 days.

Freezer – Store in a freezer container or souper cubes for individual portion sides for up to 5 months.

With time, the orzo pasta absorbs more of the liquid and it can dry out in storage. If this happens, a splash of heavy cream (for a more creamy texture) or broth can make it more saucy! Stir till combined.

To reheat from fresh – Simply microwave in 30 second increments, stirring each increment, till warmed through.

For larger servings – Place in a casserole dish and stir in about 1 tablespoon of broth or heavy cream. Cover with tin foil and reheat at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 10-15 minutes, till warmed through.

  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 pint cherry tomatoes
  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled
  • 1 5.3 ounce Boursin garlic and herb cheese
  • 12 ounces orzo pasta (about 2 cups)
  • 3 cups vegetable or chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 cups fresh spinach leaves, roughly torn
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, sliced thin
  • kosher salt and black pepper
  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Add olive oil to a 9×13 inch baking dish and toss with the tomatoes and garlic cloves, with about 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt. Make a well in the center of the tomatoes and add the Boursin cheese. Bake for 10 minutes.

  • Remove the tomatoes from the oven and toss them around. Add in the orzo, broth, Italian seasoning, and torn spinach leaves. Stir it all together. Bake for 20-25 minutes at 400F or until all the liquid has absorbed in the orzo.

  • Stir again to incorporate all the elements. Taste and add more salt and pepper if needed. Top with fresh basil leaves and serve warm!

  • For leftovers, the orzo will absorb more of the liquid and can become dry. Before reheating, stir in a splash of broth or heavy cream (for a creamy texture).
  • To add protein, stir in grilled chicken or shrimp at the very end before topping with basil.
  • This recipe makes roughly 6-8 side dish portions and 4 large main dish portions.
