The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has launched Transit Moves America, a new online dashboard that provides the public with safety, security, and performance data for transit agencies across the country.

The tool draws from data submitted through the National Transit Database (NTD) and presents it in an interactive format designed to help riders compare transit systems and better understand agency performance. Safety and security metrics will be updated monthly, while accessibility and efficiency measures will be refreshed annually.

According to FTA, the dashboard includes national averages alongside agency-level data, separates metrics for bus and rail operations, and provides operating cost per passenger trip information for the nation's 25 largest urban areas.

"Under Secretary Duffy's leadership, FTA is raising the bar on transit agency performance," Acting Deputy Administrator Matthew Cahill said in a statement. "The Transit Moves America tool will help stakeholders see which transit agencies are enhancing safety and the customer experience and which ones are failing to deliver tangible improvements for their customers."

The launch comes as federal officials continue to emphasize transparency and accountability in public transportation. Earlier this summer, the FTA issued a Request for Information seeking industry and public input on how transit service quality should be measured across five key areas: safety and security, cleanliness, universal accessibility, real-time service information, and system reliability.

The dashboard also arrives at a time when public confidence and operational performance remain under increased scrutiny. Systems including Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) have faced heightened public attention over safety and reliability in recent years, while operators such as Brightline in Florida have invested heavily in publicly communicating safety initiatives and upgrades.

By making comparable federal data more accessible, the new dashboard could provide agencies with another benchmark for evaluating operations and communicating progress to riders, policymakers, and funding partners.

The FTA said the dashboard will continue to be updated as new National Transit Database information becomes available. To access the new online tool, click here.
