He Left the Love Island villa under a cloud of mystery more than a week ago, but Sherif Lanre believes his fellow islanders are yet to be told exactly why he was asked to leave.

The London based sous chef spent just nine days in the Majorcan hideaway, where he was paired with sultry pharmacist Anna Vakili before his abrupt, unexplained exit on June 10.

Since his return to England Sherif, 20, has admitted he was told to leave following a play-fight with Molly-Mae Hague, during which he ‘playfully kicked her in the vagina’, while accusing the show of unconscious racism by giving its black cast-members limited screen time.

Speaking to BBC podcast The Reality Tea on Tuesday, he also claimed no-one complained about the incident, including the blonde social media influencer.  

'Everyone continued as normal, it was right before bed,' he said. 'I know almost 100% that [Molly] didn’t make a complaint because she wasn’t in any pain and she wasn’t injured.' 

Sherif also believes Molly and her fellow Islanders were intentionally kept in the dark about his departure for fear that being told would affect behavioral consistency in the villa.  

'I don't think they told her what happened and what they deemed inappropriate,' he said. 'I think they have a duty not to tell people in there so it doesn’t mess up their head and they don’t start moving in a particular way...basically moving stiff and dead in the show.' 

Reflecting on the general reaction to his exit from the British public, Sherif claims the situation has been blown out of proportion - while conceding he was completely in the wrong. 

'As much as there's tight regulation around the show and the contract its maybe got a bit out of hand,' he said. 

'Just even saying don’t use your home slang or don’t be yourself or mucking about its like, so what do you want me to be?' 

He added: 'Obviously I regret actually kicking someone in their private area, but it was an accident and I feel like people should understand that.'
