Domestic information and communication technology (ICT) exports recorded $53.36 billion last month, taking the top spot among all July performances in history. Explosive demand for semiconductors and server components following the expansion of the artificial intelligence (AI) market acted as the core driver that boosted overall performance.

According to the ‘July 2026 ICT Export and Import Trends’ announced by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on August 14, last month’s exports surged by 140.6% compared to the same month a year earlier ($22.17 billion). This figure maintains exports in the $50 billion range for the second consecutive month, following the previous month. During the same period, ICT accounted for 54.0% of the country’s total exports of $98.89 billion, playing the role of a core pillar responsible for more than half of all exports for the third consecutive month.

By item, semiconductors recorded $41.02 billion, growing by 178.8% compared to the same month a year earlier. This is the result of server memory exports gaining momentum as AI inference needs rise, and the expansion of enterprise SSD supplies. Semiconductor exports are continuing an upward trend for the 17th consecutive month while maintaining a high growth rate of over 100% compared to the previous year for the seventh consecutive month.

The rapid progress in the computer and peripheral device sector was also prominent. The export value of this item surged by 353.9% from the previous year to $4.94 billion, increasing for the ninth consecutive month. In particular, as demand for AI server SSDs concentrated, the export value of the single SSD item alone recorded $4.51 billion, showing a record-breaking increase of 500.2% compared to the previous year.

Display exports recorded $1.77 billion, increasing slightly by 0.5% compared to the same month a year earlier. This is the effect of expanded demand for organic light-emitting diodes (OLED) for finished smartphone and TV products ahead of their release in the second half of the year. Mobile phone exports also recorded $1.55 billion, up 62.6%, driven by demand for new products and robust sales of high-specification products.

The telecommunications equipment sector generated a performance of $240 million as exports of wireless communication devices heading to Vietnam and automotive electronic equipment to India increased. This is an 18.7% increase compared to the same month a year earlier. Overall ICT items showed an even growth trend, proving their export competitiveness.

Last month’s ICT imports were tallied at $18.3 billion, a 37.3% increase compared to the same month a year earlier. Driven by robust exports, the trade balance recorded a surplus of $35.06 billion. With this, the domestic ICT industry firmly solidified its trend of a trade surplus in the $30 billion range for the third consecutive month.
