Stafford, Va. — A traffic stop for erratic driving in Stafford County ended with a driver in handcuffs after deputies say the motorist admitted to having a gun inside the vehicle and was found to be carrying it without a permit.

According to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Martinez stopped a vehicle near Jason Lane and Richmond Highway at about 12:01 a.m. on June 16 after observing the driver commit a traffic violation.

During the stop, the driver told the deputy there was a firearm inside the vehicle.

Investigators said an initial investigation determined the driver did not possess a concealed weapons permit and also did not have a driver’s license.

The driver was identified as 28-year-old Akira Jarry of Woodbridge.

Jarry was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, a traffic lane violation and driving without a license.

Authorities said Jarry was later released with a court date. The firearm was seized and submitted into evidence.

The incident was one of several cases highlighted in the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office daily incident report, which also included a stolen vehicle investigation, a shoplifting report at a GNC store in Stafford Marketplace and a fraud case involving unauthorized bank transactions.
