STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — A Stafford County resident lost money after falling victim to a scam in which someone impersonating the victim’s boss requested gift cards, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to Gibson Drive at about 8:57 p.m. on June 30.

Investigators said the victim received an email appearing to come from their employer directing them to purchase gift cards for employees.

After buying the cards and sending the information, the victim realized the request was fraudulent.

No suspects have been identified.
