A tearful Alana Lister and Jason Engler have vowed to 'remain friends' after confirming their relationship is over.

Appearing on the Married At First Sight reunion on Sunday, it was clear the couple still had strong feelings for each other. 

Sitting across from the experts, the couple were asked point-blank by Mel Schilling if they could make it work on the outside.   

'I still like Jason a lot. And there is lots of parts of me that want to be with Jason,' Alana began, sitting across from the groom. 

'But I think that, like, we both can see that it's not probably gonna eventuate into, like, a long-term relationship outside of the experiment.'  

Jason went on to say he was 'disappointed' with how it ended but wanted to get over their 'ill feelings' for each other. 

'I mean, obviously, I'm disappointed how it ended. And I feel like, maybe, for a couple of weeks now,' he said.

'We've had ill feelings towards each other and I don't want that.'    

Alana added: 'I'm happy to be friends and, yeah, I'm just grateful that we had the chance to be together.'

The couple were clearly emotional as they sat across from the experts as they spoke of their surprising final vows. 

'Jason said that he was falling in love with me, and I was like, "That seems so genuine"', Alana said 

'We've never said anything like that to each other, and I think I got flooded with emotions.'

Jason admitted his feelings for Alana with him clearly breaking down as he watched the retrospective of the pair. 

'It was good to see that, and you know, see the good times that we did have together,' Jason said.  

'Why I did say I was falling in love with Alana. She made me feel like there was nowhere else you'd rather be than next to me,' he added.  

'She made me feel secure, and, like, she's the perfect partner for me.' 

Alana went on to admit the 'sex was good' for the couple.     

'I feel like he's funny and, like, easy-going and laidback, and it's nice to kind of, like, level out that serious side of my personality.'
