On August 4th, celebrity blogger and media personality Perez Hilton was hospitalized in Miami after he appeared to harm himself with a knife while on a TikTok livestream. This sparked immense concern among the viewers, who then contacted the police after watching the distressing visuals online.
His family released an official statement on his blog, "There are many false and inaccurate reports circulating in the media regarding Perez and the circumstances surrounding this situation. We want to confirm that Perez remains hospitalized under Florida's Baker Act. His communication has been extremely limited and confined to immediate family, medical providers, and others directly involved in his care. He has not communicated with the media or issued any public statements." The statement also provided updates about his health: "Perez's condition remains serious but stable. He experienced significant blood loss and sustained additional injuries that will require surgery in the coming days. His treatment and recovery will be a long process."
During the livestream, many viewers raised concerns about Perez's three children, ages 13, 11, and eight, wondering if they were in the house during the distressing event. It was previously confirmed by an MDSO spokesperson that Hilton was alone at home at the time of the livestream. However, a new statement by the family mentioned that "just minutes before the livestream incident, Perez's children, niece, and sister were inside the home. When it became clear that Perez was experiencing a severe mental health crisis and harming himself, they immediately fled to protect the children from witnessing any further trauma."
His family requested people to respect the "space and privacy to care for everyone affected by this situation," and that his children are safe and being cared for by them.
Before this livestream, the star admitted to have had a few incredibly difficult months. In February, Hilton revealed on his YouTube livestream that he had been sick and it was "the worst flu" of his life. A month later, he was hospitalized in Las Vegas with severe sepsis. It was during this time that he shared an update about his health, saying that "God presented himself to me."
Hilton was known for his celebrity gossip blog, perezhilton.com, which had immense influence during the 2000s. He would post detailed stories about the private lives of celebrities—where they were going, whom they were with, and what their relationships were perhaps like. And people loved reading it—in 2007, his website hit a new record of SEVEN MILLION views in a day, beating its previous record of six million views. It might seem unsettling now, but people loved celebrity gossip in the 2000s.
Over time, his blog's bread and butter became gossip about various high-profile celebrities, and he did not hold back. He was known to use paparazzi pictures of celebrities, often without appropriate consent, and drew inappropriate doodles on them to make his articles stand out. He would routinely shame celebrities for their physical attributes among other things—he often jumped past the lines of propriety and published "upskirt" photos of female celebrities. As time passed, Perez Hilton became synonymous with brazen, unfiltered opinions on celebrities.
Reflecting upon this controversial time, Hilton appeared on an episode of Hang Out With Sean Hannity a few weeks before the livestream, where he revealed that he had reached out to the celebrities he had targeted and tried to make amends with them. He confessed that he had reached out to Khloe Kardashian and Britney Spears, although only Khloe responded to his message.
Following the official statement from Perez's family asking for privacy, fans are bringing up the times when Perez leaked photos, drew inappropriate signs on celebrities' faces, and used derogatory language to address them back in the 2000s—implying that he did not offer them the same courtesy. There are several celebrities who were negatively impacted by Hilton's blog.

Britney Spears
There were many stars who were mocked by Hilton during the 2000s, but none received the same level of intense mockery and labeling as Britney Spears. During this period, the singer's struggles were widely known. Especially after her divorce from dancer and actor Kevin Federline in 2007, Britney was at the height of her mental breakdowns. During this time, Hilton called her an "unfit parent" to her sons. He used a photograph of Britney partying at a nightclub as proof to justify his commentary. He even called her a "monster" who left behind her one- and two-year-old children to party. Hilton continued to push the "unfit mother" label after the singer struck a paparazzo's car with an umbrella while being followed by photographers. He also posted several unauthorized recordings of her on his blog, which resulted in her label suing him for copyright infringement. However, the lawsuit did not stick, as there was insufficient evidence.
But he did not stop after the lawsuit. Instead, he became even more explicit with his choice of words about the singer. Following actor Heath Ledger's tragic death, Perez began selling custom T-shirts featuring the actor's face with the words, "Why couldn't it be Britney?" written underneath. Later, in 2021, as public perception began shifting in Britney's favor following the release of the Britney vs. Spears documentary, Hilton stated in an interview with Sky News that he regretted the things he had said about the pop star.

The Gossip Girl actress was 16 years old when Perez published an inappropriate photo of her on his homepage. Taylor was performing onstage when a photographer took a photo under her skirt. Her tampon string was visible in the image, and Perez posted it on his site with a negative headline shaming the actress. While the image is no longer on the blog, it circulated online at the time. When she appeared on Alex Cooper'sCall Her Daddy in 2025, she recalled, "I'm underage. The violation, and the negative kind of, like, I don't remember the headline being very negative like 'Slut,' or 'Look how trashy Taylor is' kind of thing." She went on to say that she initially found the incident invasive, but after about a week, she began to laugh it off because "there's nothing you can do about it."

In the late 2000s, Miley Cyrus, singer and actor, was still riding the high of the Hannah Montana franchise while kickstarting her singing career. In 2010, Hilton shared a link on X (formerly Twitter) to a revealing close-up photo of Miley stepping out of a car during a video shoot. Hilton had pixelated the area between her legs, leading viewers to believe that she was not wearing underwear. However, that was not the case. Because Miley was 17 years old at the time and still a minor, people began accusing the blogger of sharing child pornography when her pictures began circulating. Hilton defended himself, stating that he had never said or implied that the singer was nude and that the internet had made that assumption.

Lance Bass is a singer, producer and actor who is best known as a part of the popular boy group, NSYNC. In 2005, Hilton began posting articles on his blog outing Lance without his permission. Prior to these articles, Lance had not publicly confirmed that he was gay. In an interview with Access Hollywood, Lance stated, "You know, once you get in the business, you know what you're getting into. Unfortunately, if you don't want to be in the spotlight, get out of it." After the articles were published, Lance eventually made a public statement about his sexuality in a People cover story. At the time, Hilton did not regret his actions, stating, "If you know something to be a fact, why not report it?"

Ireland Baldwin is the daughter of Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger. Following the distressing livestream incident, Ireland posted an Instagram Story sharing her experience with Hilton and how he had treated her family over the years. During the 2000s, Perez frequently commented on Alec Baldwin and his family, and the two had a complicated relationship over the years. Ireland wrote, "Perez Hilton has publicly humiliated my family for years, sexualized me from a young age, commented on my weight and body (as a child), made unforgivable comments about people in my family, drew j!zz coming out of my mom's and friend's mouths, and has always been a despicable human being. But his children deserve better and a healthy father, and I am so sad for all of them. I hope he gets the help he needs and heals."

Tallulah Willis is Bruce Willis' daughter, and in October 2025, she opened up about the negative comments Hilton had made about her when she was just 13 years old. If I am NOT this man's child 💛💛 Wow, this is making me so full and emotional this early Wednesday morning. The face, the smile, dare I say it, the chin (hey @perez remember when you bullied a 13-year-old for money) that made me want to end it all is now the most precious gift I could be bestowed with. I used to not be able to say the word "chin" out loud. It was my dirty, sinful malady, center stage for all the world to see. At least that's what you guys said, over and over and over and over."
She continued, "What a cursed child I was for inheriting this joyful, expressive feature, alive with emotion! I'm angry at the adults; they planted the seeds of self-hate, and I'm proud of myself for the work I've done to rip that hate out from the roots!" She later shared a now-deleted screenshot of an article from Hilton's website that featured paparazzi photos of her when she was 14 years old. The article read: "Bruce Willis' youngest spawn, Tallulah, lets her butt all hang out. The pair share a smooch and a hug. He might as well give her a pat on the ass while they're at it! Bruce and Lulah went shopping in West Hollywood on Sunday. If that were our fugly child, we would have bought her a pair of pants!" Tallulah slammed Hilton for making comments about her body and weight when she was only 14 years old.
In the caption of the now-deleted post, Tallulah wrote, "Shame on you for sexualizing a little 14-year-old's body as a thirty fucking year old man. The concept that you got a good night's sleep on sheets LITERALLY paid for by children's tears is foul." She further stated that she was not looking for pity but instead wanted to encourage people to support the mental health of young people. She also expressed hope that Perez "can invite some inward reflection on past behavior and explore what was underneath the pull to tear people down."

Neil Patrick Harris was another celebrity who was forcefully outed as gay because of Hilton's website. In a 2006 interview with The Guardian, when asked whether it should be Neil's choice to decide what he wanted to reveal about himself, Perez said, "No, it's not. If a reporter asks you whether you're gay or not, it's your choice not to want to talk about your personal life. She wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "Still have the text Perez sent me of me in a wheelchair with the words KARMA written across + Madonna pointing a gun at me. Day of my accident." In light of the recent disturbing events, some people online have expressed mixed feelings about his family asking for privacy.
