As a huge fan of pop-punk music, I grew up listening to Green Day. From memorizing the lyrics to "Basket Case" and "American Idiot" to seeing them in concert for the very first time, this band has been a huge part of my experience in the scene for years and years.
And now, Green Day is bringing their punk-rock roots to the big screen with the debut of NIMRODS. Inspired by their experience touring in a van during the '90s, the film follows Tommy (Mason Thames) and his band as they embark on a cross-country road trip of a lifetime. Their mission? Make it in time to open for Green Day on New Year's Eve...obviously.
Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool served as writers and producers of the film, so I'm expecting their legendary energy to take the stage as the story unfolds.
So, if you're curious about who's who in the cast, I've got you covered:
First up, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool play themselves as the obviously iconic members of Green Day, who Tommy and his friends lay it all on the line for so they can open for the band on New Year's Eve.
The trio is known for rocking the stage, chart-topping records, and iconic music videos, but NIMRODS is a whole new era for them as they take on the silver screen.
Mason Thames plays Tommy.
Mckenna Grace plays Olivia.
Mckenna's most known for being a modern-day scream queen with roles in The Haunting of Hill House, Annabelle Comes Home, Malignant, and Scream 7. But she got her start at a young age, appearing in Crash & Bernstein, The Young and the Reckless, and Gifted. She's also slated to play Daphne Black in the upcoming Scooby-Doo: Origins series.
NIMRODS isn't the first time Mckenna has worked alongside her boyfriend, Mason. They also starred together in Regretting You.
Kylr Coffman plays Fred.
Kylr's been acting since 2017 and has appeared in Major Crimes, L.A.'s Finest, Outbreak, The Gates, and FBI.
Ryan Foust plays Chad.
He's appeared in Tales of the City, The Goldfinch, and Marry Me.
Keen Ruffalo plays Wayne.
He's appeared in Begin Again, Hal & Harper, Task, and Sterling Point. And if you recognize his last name, you'll know he's the oldest son of actor Mark Ruffalo.
Jolene Blalock plays Deborah.
She's best known for her role as T'Pol in Star Trek: Enterprise, but also appeared in Sex Tape, Stargate SG-1, and Stages.
The cast has even more familiar faces, although their characters haven't been officially unveiled. Here's who else you can expect to see when the film drops in theaters:
Jenna Fischer
You obviously know Jenna as Pam from The Office, but she's also appeared in Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, Hall Pass, You, Me and the Apocalypse, The 15:17 to Paris, and Splitting Up Together.
Angela Kinsey
Angela's another alum we all know from The Office, playing the strict, cat-obsessed accountant Angela Martin. But she's also appeared in Haters Back Off!, Fresh Off the Boat, Tall Girl, and Never Have I Ever.
Fred Armisen
Fred is most known for Saturday Night Live and Portlandia, but you also might have seen him in Wednesday, Big Mouth, and Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.
Bobby Lee
Bobby's appeared in Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, Pineapple Express, The Awesomes, Mad TV, Splitting Up Together, and Happy Gilmore 2.
Ignacio Diaz-Silverio
He's appeared in Primo, FBI, Zero Day, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
Sean Gunn
He's appeared in Gilmore Girls, Guardians of the Galaxy, Creature Commandos, and Superman.
NIMRODS will be in theaters on August 14. Watch the trailer here, and share who you're most exicted to see in the movie in the comments!
