WELLS – Thomas “Tom” Norton, 71, of Wells, Maine, passed away unexpectedly on July 31, 2026. Born in Newton, Mass., Tom was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, colleague, and friend.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Cathy; children Amy and Chris Thompson, daughter-in-law, Tara; and grandchildren Elizabeth and Alex. He also leaves behind siblings John (Diane), Nancy (Michael), Debbie (John), and Amy (Brian); as well as many nieces and nephews.

A longtime naval engineer, Tom was a member of the American Society of Naval Engineers, the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, and held Professional Engineer licensure in marine engineering and hydrodynamics. After retiring in January, he began training to become a hospice care worker.

Tom was known for his curiosity, love of learning, and wide ranging interests—from cooking and gardening to music, books, hockey, and travel.

Visitation hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m., on Aug. 13, at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Rd., Wells. A service to honor and celebrate Tom’s life will be held on Aug. 14, 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 236 Eldridge Rd., Wells.
