Escrow.com released its Q2 Domain Investment Index (pdf) this week.

It turns out the company had a bigger quarter than I thought.

The company said it facilitated $160 million of domain transactions during the quarter. That’s on a Gross Payment Volume (GPV) basis.

Parent company Freelancer Limited (ASX: FLN, OTCQX: FRLCY) earlier reported Escrow.com payments on a Gross Marketplace Value (GMV) basis that suggested the number was closer to $127 million.

They’re two different measures, which are kind of like looking at accrual vs. cash accounting.

But the bottom line is that the number dwarfed any quarter since early 2021, and .ai was a big reason for it.

.Ai accounted for a whopping $37.7 million, up from $10.0 million in the first quarter. The average price for a one word .ai was $535k, which was even higher than .com.
