The Weeknd continued promoting his new HBO series The Idol, even while touring the world.

The 33-year-old singer (born Abel Makkonen Tesfaye) took to his Instagram story on Sunday afternoon, sharing a snap from his latest tour stop in Amsterdam.

The singer was seen opening a black leather coat, revealing a black t-shirt featuring his character from The Idol - Tedros - in an Instagram story post to his 60.9 million Instagram followers.

'@TheIdol Sundays in Amsterdam f**k you talkin about,' he said in the caption to his snap.

He also shared a behind-the-scenes snap from the show, revealing there were 30 minutes left until the new episode debuted, which comes just days after he defended the show from the critical backlash. 

The Weeknd took to Twitter on Wednesday, quote-retweeting a fan who said, 'I cried a lot this episode. I’ve never related to a character more on a program than I have to jocelyn. Her mental. Her mother dynamic. It’s uncanny. The Idol is REAL. And a lot of people just don’t get it.' 

The Weeknd responded: 'they will… i promise, give it time. until then enjoy the show for yourself,' adding a heart emoji.'

The Weeknd also shrugged off the criticism in an interview with Variety - the same outlet where a recent headline called his acting ability 'nonexistent.'

Dismissing the blowback as 'very much expected,' The Weeknd cited Carrie director Brian De Palma and Basic Instinct director Paul Verhoeven as an 'inspiration.'

He argued that 'we’re playing with genres with this show, we’re doing exactly what we wanted to do. And none of this is a surprise.' 

Ever since it screened at Cannes, the show has been raked over the coals for its portrayal of Jocelyn, who is described at one point as a 'human c** sock.'

On one episode, Jocelyn masturbates and self-harms while mourning her dead mother and ultimately falls into the carnal thrall of The Weekend's character Tedros. 

In what British GQ has called 'the worst sex scene in history,' Jocelyn pleasures herself as Tedros instructs her to 'make that throat wet for me' and demands that she 'f***ing stretch that tiny little p***y.' 

The Weeknd co-created The Idol with former nightlife entrepreneur Reza Fahim as well as Sam Levinson, the writer behind Euphoria. 

Sam, whose own history with drugs helped inspire Euphoria, is Lily-Rose's fellow 'nepo baby' as the son of the acclaimed director Barry Levinson.

Upon its premiere at Cannes, The Idol got a five-minute standing ovation but also provoked a raft of blistering responses from critics. 

The Playlist's Gregory Ellwood called the second episode 'Sexist, pseudo-porn,' while the New York Times' Kyle Buchanan dismissed the show as 'a Pornhub-homepage odyssey' starring 'Lily-Rose Depp’s areolas,' and The Wrap dubbed it 'luxury sleaze.'
